I still can't believe anyone thought he was good enough for us.

Just like Roy.

How did people think they'd be good enough? What have they ever done to be good enough?

Hodgson: not be Benitez.

Konchesky: be signed by someone who wasn't Benitez.

I think we’re generally sinned against more than sinning, that ‘them against us’ attitude is well earned and well worth keeping, it's our history. Don’t think we are behind most other cities, in fact don't think it could be argued that culturally / architecturally we’re light years ahead of most. Commercially we’re definitely getting there, the city is vibrant which is where it should stay.

Maybe wrong but I’ve generally a fuck us, fuck you attitude (not defending that by the way, know it's probably wrong, just me).

Fucking hell.

RyanBabel Ryan Babel

How bad we were yesterday, Paul Konchesky didn't deserved to be treated like that ...

Babel is right.... say no more... fucking idiots cheering when Konchesky was taken off.

I don't rate him but I didn't think he actually stunk last night. No worse that Skirtel for example.

Think he got jeered because he is not good enough, aligned/associated with Roy and his ma's rant against scousers. Oh and his massive chewing of gum when he got the hook!!

apparently he only made two tackles all night, not sure how that compares to anyone else but sounds a bit low

he's shit, its not his fault, of course he wouldnt pass up a chance to move to us, the vitriol should be saved for the man who brought him here and stubbornly continues to play him

We are behind most other cities, commercially. Liverpool's architecture is fantastic, but apart from some generic new builds, it's the old stuff that sets it apart. Culturally, we've always been a bit of an enclave, and I'm extremely proud of it, but again, other cities have increasingly strong theatre and music scenes. The city isn't vibrant commercially. We have new bars and a whole raft of shops which are in danger of becoming white elephants, as there just aren't the jobs paying sufficient wedge - the tourist industry is not enough to keep the city afloat. That's why i think the 'them against us' attitude is outdated and damaging. It needs to embrace the commercial world - 100 years ago Liverpool used to be full of entrepreneurs and businesses, and was one of the largest contributors to the wealth of the country. People need to show the same spirit, energy, creativity and vision to put it back where it should be. Commercialism is not a dirty word.

Aye.

What's more baffling we actually pay dick heads huge sums of money to make these decisions. i.e buying Konchesky, Poulsen, hiring Hodgson etc. Loads of people saw these were not good enough.

I'm still shocked at the crass stupidity among huge swathes of our fans that anything good could have come from sacking Benitez at that time, under that regime.

There were very legitimate concerns over his stewardship, but the inability of so many to see that what would follow would inevitably be much, much worse at that time and with those administrators beggars belief.

with that squad I honestly didnt think Roy could do any worse than 7th, wasnt happy with his appointment but didnt think he'd do dreadful and could be a stop gap for a year while the takeover was done, dont normally get taken in by media hype but perhaps was with him as he is a complete fucking tit and the worst manager I've ever seen

I'm amazed that there are huge numbers of our fans that can't see he had to go. Never mind the terrible season, the club was all over the floor - he was a disruptive, distracting and divisive influence on and off the field. Players didn't want to play for him. He was a PR nightmare when we were looking to make the club look as attractive as possible. Then when talks began with NESV it was clear that Benitez was a man that they wouldn't be able to do business with, and he was booted out. If the club hadn't ditched Benitez, we might have gone into administration.

Yes we've had a terrible season, but I believe the club would've been worse off with Benitez here.

Yep, there were many concerns over many different elements of his peformance and role and transfer dealings, but given that he hadn't worked on firm ground for a couple of years, not all of that was his fault.

In relation to PR, one of the huge positives about his last season for me was his constant highlighting of The Tumours and their asset stripping of the club. Granted a lot was for his own reasons, but it was still very important. For whatever reason, he seemed to have his suspicions of their motives and sincerity as early as the morning after the 2007 European Cup Final (remember them?) and went very public early on.

In a fully functioning and stable football club, I could see the point of moving him on. Last summer though? No way. It shouldn't even have been an issue.

I think you're wrong that we'd be having as bad a season on the pitch Stringy. That's not to say that I think we'd be doing well, or well enough for him to deserve to still be in the job, but the fact remains that a distracted, divisive Rafa Benitez is still twenty times the manager Roy Hodgson is.

Yep, as usual, he just cant admit to being wrong so digs himself hole after hole.

I'm not digging a hole. I'm explaining why Benitez had to go.

And what can't I admit to being wrong about? Hodgson coming in and doing a good job? I was dead wrong about that. Benitez having to go? Dead right about that.
