I was just wondering about that. Presumably the local CLP will have already had a good idea of who they wanted for their candidate; y'know, someone who can stand against the Tories. They're not going to rally around this twat.

They already have a candidate, Mike Tapp, she will not be standing.

Its performative.

bit of a meltdown on twitter

ideally no tory would join labour, but I cant see how this doesnt damage them

Someone has pointed out that, under Starmer, Natalie Elphicke is a Labour MP and Diane Abbott isn't ; and that anti-racists can draw their own conclusions.

Ah, that changes things.

Elphicke, MP for Dover, has accepted that she will not be Labour’s candidate at the general election, when the constituency will have a new name because of boundary changes.

The pictures of Starmer shaking hands with her looking like a delighted coach signing a star player make me feel nauseous. Starmer had a chance there to be performative as well and lift her by the back of her jacket and plonk her right back on the Tory benches.

And the last bastion of hope for any kind of even centre left alternative evaporates into thin air.

Other than the ERG lunatics and a few on the left of Labour the two party's are completely interchangeable.

Is she any relation to Michael? Genuine question.

No, slightly different spelling ( an e on the end )

Used to love Boon , a slightly more low-key Equaliser.

Elphicke is not standing as an mp, but like that other gobshite a week or so back they are both talking about working with Labour in the background on Housing and Health respectively. Just shoot me now.
