Another final, another defeat for Argentina. In the last 3 years, other than not winning, a pattern has been emerging where they are a little over-reliant on Messi, Higuain fails to convert a glorious chance, and Di Maria is either missing or half fit.

 

As for the ref in this one, I think he must have been given an absolute bollocking by CONMEBOL at half time because he let the game flow a lot more and raised his performance level from utterly appalling to mediocre. He didn't let the game flow at all in the first half, was too whistle-happy and allowed things to get out of control. That said, he still missed an absolute shocker of a challenge by Funes Mori that was way way worse than the one for which he sent Rojo off.

Argentina have made 3 major finals in 3 years. All went to extra time, so they've played a total of 6 hours in those games. They've had the likes of Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Tevez, Di Maria, Lavezzi to call upon in that time. Goals scored? Zero.
