I fucking love the fact that he obviously knew he was going and yet drove through the release of a new album that's as creatively fresh as anything in his career. A remarkably talented and independently-minded bloke who was a true musical legend.

Like a few here, I was never a fan to the extent of buying all his albums, but I bought the best of Bowie about 10 years ago and it'll go on for the odd song on occasion (usually after I hear one of his songs on teh radio and then think "where's that album?"). I once saw him live out of pure luck in the Baggot Inn in Dublin at least 20 years ago when he was preparing for a tour and did a surprise set to about 100 people.  He did about 8 songs and it was great.

One of those announcements that leaves you in immediate shock when you hear it.

I was at that. Coming on stage with Space Oddity and that huge projection on the invisible screen over the stage.

I saw him on the Glass Spider tour, too. He was a true great.

Gutted. I loved the man.

Me too. I was only 12 and got dragged to it with my mum as her mate let her down last minute. I thought he was okay until that point, but watching him live, a new fan was born.

The image that sticks out was of that big screen. His face appearing in the top corner, looking down on himself playing on stage.

TLW loves a good pun when somebody passes away. But not today. It just doesn't feel right. The term "legend" is often misused in common parlance. Not in Mr Bowie's case.

Shocking news. Didn't even know he was ill.

What a talent. Didn't think I got upset by news like this, guess I was wrong.

Odd sensation isn't it! Been playing his music since I got up and feeling strangely emotional throughout...gay, etc.

Some of it is memory-bound; old times, great nights, funerals of close friends/loved ones, etc, but much of it is just sadness at today's news.

What a fucking guy.
