UCL - Madrid v Liverpool

I reckon he'll start - doesn't stop it being a disgrace though.

Don't reckon it's a disgrace. It just does nothing for other squad members' confidence.

He's still well able to do a job further up he pitch, but as a defensive midfielder, he's probably 3rd or 4th in the pecking order to my eyes.

Honestly don't see how anyone can moan about that, I'm as critical of Rodgers as anyone but that was a solid performance. They've got two of the world's four best players in their attack and they were on home soil, anything other than abject humiliation against a side like that is a good day.

Too right.

You can call it "cagey" or "tactical" or whatever you like, but that is a really, really good team in Madrid.  They just embarrassed a Barca team that started Messi, Neymar and Suarez the other week.  Brendan hasn't really shown a gift for that sort of tactical battle that Rafa was so good at to play disciplined and try to nick a goal against a team that might be better than you, but he did it tonight.

Unfortunate that we couldn't craft anything threatening, but our tactics were spot on and if we'd had Sturridge to come on at 65 minutes we might just have gotten something from that game.

For me, tonight was more about performance than result, and we got a fairly decent performance.  Now the question is whether Brendan has the balls to reward some of these players with a start against Chelsea.  I doubt it, but I would love to see Can and Toure rewarded with the start ahead of Lovren and Gerrard, at least.

Not as annoying as the cloying sentimentality towards someone earning £180k per week while there are people on food banks.

You could say that about everyone who's remotely famous then couldn't you? Do you like David Bowie? He's worth half a billion pounds. Do you watch golf? Do you like Tom Hanks films? He's worth a few quid too, it's probably unjust but should they all be paid minimum wage because some people are poor? Is it people like Gerrard's fault? Did he cause the credit crunch like the bankers who also pocket excellent money? Did he fleece or threaten people out of their shares in state owned resources like Abramovich? Does he use taxpayers' money to build property portfolios like some MPs do? Or is he in fact paid by people who choose to go and watch him, and from shirts which are probably mostly sold because of people like him existing. People like Gerrard are paid good money because they've entertained people through using talents that not many people possess. Gerrard has given Liverpool fans some of their greatest ever memories, he's well paid for that reason.

Yep very encouraging. Funneeee is such a twat. I like stringvest but I think your opinions confuse the spack fest on here.

I actually agree with code, keep the same team, sack Gerard off.

Madrid didn't ease off, when a team looks shit the opposition has to take credit for making it so.

That's us, 'supporters'.

Now get fucked cos that was good shit.

Bigger picture? Seeing? Capable? Sky sports? Paul Merson at a keyboard?

Can't disagree with any of that

Hope Brendan's Rodgers experiment with Balotelli in big games is over now, Thought he was brave tonight .A hammering and he would have been crucified for that selection. Whats more he got a big performance out of all those players that started which given the shite we have been served up recently was no mean feat. The rest of the fuckers need to take note

I think that makes 360+ minutes with only one goal from open play. RM are clearly better than us, sure, but they're not exactly a defensive powerhouse. Blanked against Hull, Newcastle and now this, not very promising.

Sorry but you're never convincing me. I'm a socialist and all rich people are fucking scum in my eyes.

Well said there, Section. If you think Gerrard's a spent force and his presence his detrimental to the team, I have no problem with that; just put it across in a constructive manner that doesn't come across like you're taking the piss out of him, the manager or the team.

He's easily top five in terms of players to wear the red shirt, if not in in a fair few's top spot. Treat him with the respect he deserves and fuck off with the snide shite.

More of a routine victory than when they smashed Barcelona at the weekend would you say?

It was a routine victory, to paint it any different is delusional. Madrid weren't very good tonight, nor were they up for it like they were for El Classico. They basically already qualified, it was a 2nd gear performance against a team that played 10 men behind the ball, and still lost, that's the most important thing most of you seem to be forgetting.

we ll play gerrard and lucas together on saturday based on that tonight and then it ll be all 'dont play those 2 together'

and it'd be right because these two together are shite and now it's the point when I prefer

Lucas on the pitch without Gerrard, than Gerrard on pitch without Lucas tbf, at least the clumsy fucker can kick the shit out of opposition players
