Lille (a) 11/03 - Watch out Europe....

After a truely demoralising night in the land that time forgot its off on another european jaunt we go.

 

I love the lad and he's well in credit but that was possibly the worst performance I've seen Stevie give in his 11 years in the first team.

 

Reina (as ever), Masch and Torres escape censure for a fucking woeful team performance - more through attitude than anything else - and an honourable mention to Acquilani who managed more decent football in 15 mnutes than the other nine outfield players combined did in 90. With a decent pre-season behind him he could be more than useful next season.

 

Time for the 11 who take the field on thursday to stand up, be counted and show some fucking pride.

 

With problems at the back all season we need at least one away goal and I'd have:

 

Pepe

Johnson

Carra

The Greek

Insua

Stevie

Mascherano

Aquilani

Babel

Dani

Torres

 

Wishful thinking in all likelihood and no doubt Lucas and Kuyt will both be on the teamsheet as ever - this is not "anti" either one of them - but after a performance like last night's heads have got to roll.

 

Part of me is crying out for this never ending season of woe to end - please let it end. Meanwhile the crazy optimist in me thinks that the Europa League might just offer redemption of a sort.

 

Here's hoping the good citizens of Lille are more welcoming than the knuckle dragging residents of Lancashire. If I should never see Wigan again I would not be in the least bit concerned.
