A challenge for the lovely bad nerds on here!

 

Our IT people have gone awol. We've a Word that has somehow become huge - 511Mb, and it won't open either due to the size or because it's become corrupted. I dunno.

 

Is there a way of forcing it to open or recovering the text?

Owen read this mate, some good advice. Make sure you make a copy of the document first, and try and recover the copy:

save it onto a usb drive.

put the usb drive in another computer.

right click on it, then select properties.

Then go to the pub and drink enough beer to forget the problem.

Cheers Weeksie, I've tried all of them apart from the open office. I'm not sure the file's corrupt, just huge, and that's stopping it opening at all. That means the likes of inserting or copying are no use.

Any parser that can parse this format should be able to get at the data. Now, depending on how important the data is, remember it is basically a text file with formatting. So you can always get at the data. Always, just depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it.
