Like to see that ruthlessness carried into the pre-season games, last year we took too many youngsters and gave them too much playing time in what was already a much shorter pre-season. As a result we looked under-prepared.

Need a more focused squad this time around with the best youngsters and those needed to plug gaps in the squad who are there to manage the minutes of the first teamers rather than using the early games to showcase youngsters for loan moves.

We played 33 players in each of the first 2 pre season games and we only had 4 friendlies before the Charity Shield.

Is that not what we have always done, the main players have always started with 30 minutes,  then 60 and so on.

So I agree and disagree. I think the problem last season is we just didn't have enough time. Players were flying back directly from their holidays to Singapore. So they didn't want to play the players for more than 30 mins and that meant over 30 players per match. And we still had players dropping like flies.

The club was honouring it's requirements to SCB to get the new deal over the line. The consequences of that is we didn't play enough or at the right times for players on their returns. So i agree, we went into the season a bit cold, but there were mitigating circumstances - although we can argue about the rights and wrongs of that separately. If I recall correctly man city played just two games prior to the charity shield. It didn't hurt them much, but I suspect their training camps were better, but they were behind us on that opening game.

This season doesn't look a great deal better, we still only have 4 games unless there's some we don't know about.

He's been a great captain for us in terms of trophies won but getting an actuall transfer fee for him this summer would be the best possible end to his Liverpool career. Feels a bit dirty taking money off the Saudis when you know how bad their human rights record is, though. Wouldn't blame Henderson for turning the move down either.

Hendo won't take the move even if the club accepted. He will have his eyes on the Euros next year and he's not getting called up playing out there

Well he can take it or not play here then no Euro’s, if it’s not all bollocks. That said it’s amazing what a bigger wage can do.

This is where it all starts to get tricky...ideally we'd say no to their dirty money, but nobody else seems to be taking that stance and when all is said and done and the pots are being won and the places in the european cup are being secured who will give us any credit if we are missing out for doing things the 'right way'....and ultimately even if anyone does, it is not going to make losing any better is it.

Look at chelsea - the story if they are a sucees again this year won't be 'oh they got 100m from the saudi's for their shite' - nobody will give a fuck about that - it will all be how greay Pochettino is etc.

Football sold its soul a long time ago - and we are now entering a whole new era of shitness and grubbiness - it isn't nice and it leaves a bad taste, but being the nice guys who stick to their principles whilst everyone else is grabbing the money and using it to win whilst admirable is not going to cut it - its a dirty, shite stained game, full of snakes and full of cunts - sadly it is all about to ramp up to unseen levels and it is gonna be a case of play as dirty as the rest or be left standing.

Thiago isn’t even close to being world class, hysterical stuff getting wrote about the crock still.

Perhaps he’ll showcase his talent in Turkey.  Lots of world class players in that league.

Yeah right

All this talk of saving on wages with Thiago but we've already saved on Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arthur, Carvalho and Ramsey's wages, plus we get a pittance for any fee for him, fuck that, keep the world class midfielder and keep some kind of continuity in our midfield. Pre-seasons never seem to be long enough as it is for Klopp, let alone with a completely new midfield.

People are bitching about a raw Thuram or a 19 year old that played 29 games for a relegated Southampton yet want these players to replace a world class midfielder. We can still get one/both and have a year of easing them into the team before Thiago goes. We bin him for peanuts and he plays no games for us at all. If he stay it's more competition for places and pressure to keep performances up but people would rather count beans.

I've been a supporter of Thiago, but it's clear that as much as anything his body can't cope with the demands of Premier League football.

Turkey or Saudi Arabia is where he's at now.

Even if he does stick around he's not going to play much even when he is fit. He's not in our best eleven any more and nor should he be.  The midfield looked much better without him at the end of last season and there's no point bringing back a player that will be gone in 12 months either way.
