Big day for women in the US, Title IX interpretation from Biden’s government that the sex protections are now gender protections.  So federally funded schools and universities can no longer provide single sex spaces, bathrooms, changing rooms, scholarships.  Progress…

Interesting take above - here is the full text for those who want to read it (RICO!!!) - note there is nothing about transgender male athletic participation in this amendment - it deals with sexual harassment.

https://public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2024-07915.pdf

The Department of Education said Thursday that it plans to reinstate Title IX regulations tossed out by the Trump administration. Proposed changes would combat sexual discrimination in schools by boosting victim protections and modifying language to include sexual orientation and gender identity for LGBTQI+ students.

"Over the last fifty years, our nation has made monumental progress in advancing equity and equality for all students, including by narrowing gender gaps in sports, expanding opportunities in science and technology fields, and protecting students from sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment and sexual violence," Biden said in White House statement.

"This is what America is all about: possibilities. Millions of women and girls have benefited from the change that Title IX helped make possible," he added.

The Biden administration released rules Friday that protect the rights of LGBTQ students and change the way schools can respond to allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. It's a long-awaited answer to campaign promises made by President Biden to reverse Trump-era regulations he said were silencing survivors.

The Biden administration also broadened the definition of what counts as sexual harassment, so more cases might qualify as serious enough to require a school investigation.

Under the Trump-era regulations, some forms of sex-based harassment weren't considered to be Title IX violations. That reverses Trump-era regulations that had narrowed harassment to what is "objectively offensive."

Amendments will also include language to prevent discrimination base on sex stereotypes and pregnancy, the department said. It would require schools to provide reasonable modifications for pregnant students and reasonable break time for pregnant employees as well as lactation spaces.

The Biden administration's changes avoid the controversial question of whether schools can ban transgender athletes from competing on women's and girls' teams. Officials have proposed a separate rule on that issue, which they say is still in the works, but offered no timeline.

Arguing against is Will Creley, legal director at FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression,  "By expanding the definition of sexual harassment, the new regulations threaten expressive rights."

....Dr Cass......

You read the article where she condemns the misrepresentation of the report? The one where she’s been advised not to travel on the bus?

Just read the report.

Edit: this is one thing that always surprises me about this place.  Court judgments, reports like this are usually available online but noone ever reads them.

Most predictable response ever.

Apart from the suggestion that anti-trans activists are being disingenuous (Heaven forbid you and your weird mates should ever do such a thing!) Billy Bragg and the Kite Trust aren't claiming anything there: every relevant word is from Dr Hilary Cass, who (I assume) has read and understood the fucking Cass Report.

Really?  “Literally nobody claimed that”. Are you very sure about that?

You being pedantic?

OK.  I never claimed it, nor did Billy Bragg, nor did The Kite Trust.

The closest I've seen to anyone claiming that was you, in your comeback post last week.
