It's probably an analytics thing. More efficient to attack by focusing on creating shooting opportunities inside the box. I doubt we even want to improve at it.

Yeah, I’d imagine there’s a percentages aspect to it. Still, Ox would appear to have a bit more licence to do so.

I’m a fan of Ox. He’s a good footballer. He offers something bit different compared to our other centre midfielders because he’s very direct and is a genuine goal threat (4th highest goal scorer last season). I do concede he’s now more dispensable with Curtis Jones’ emergence. Not a big fan of him as a winger in our system because he prefers running with the ball than running in behind.

Offers a long distance goal threat (as does Shaq) which is one of the few areas we could improve on at present. Odd that Hendo and Fabinho don’t take a punt more often as they’ve both scored from far out in the past.

I think we choose to try and create better quality chances. We mostly only shoot at goal from distance when the ball isn't pressed.

I don't care so much about chamberlain. I thought he did well till he got that big injury, but I don't think he's looked anything like the same player and it felt klopp was seeing him more as a front 3 player rather than midfielder and for me he did his best work for us in the midfield 3. We are so light in midfield, he will surely get another chance there and hopefully he can create some of that early form, but I'm not expecting it.

Not sure this is a thing - looks like we were second to City last season in golas outside the box.

I'm sure we were as we're a good team, we create.more shooting opportunities, we score loads of goals and when we do shoot from distance, we do it when there's no pressure on the ball. But I think if you look at our ratio of shots inside to outside the box, I think that will paint a different picture (I haven't got the stats and wouldn't know where to find them, it's purely observational from me). I heard an interview some time ago with pep ljinders where he talked about how we work on creating 8/10 quality chances instead of taking shots with 6/10 chances. I think this forms part of that strategy.

Yea, there is no doubt we are willing to hold onto it in their half.

I hope he comes back strong but Ox is really not much of a goal threat so to think he is going to stick a couple from range may be hopeful. So, I am hopeful.

Yeah, hopefully he does come back strong. But as I said before, he didn't look the same lad to me when he came back. He looked quite explosive and strong before, but that physical spark he had for me seems to be less obvious than before the injury.

Do you think that is down to him or the fact we’re less Red Arrows & Blitzkrieg now?

That's a good point. But I think it's him, to me he just looks like one of those lads who has a little something taken away by injury. It only needs to be 1 or 2%. It could also be that he was getting more chances in the front 3 and as I mentioned in an earlier post, I think he was better from midfield. But I thought him not getting a game in midfield was a reflection that klopp didn't want him there.

From Transfer Market, think it may be just PL games.

Regarding certain players injuries.

The date is their first injury for the club excluding Chamberlain his date is from his first injury ( after ) the ACL.

Alisson 20 missed since Aug 19

Chamberlain 35 since Feb 18

Keita 28 since Oct 18

Henderson 66 since Aug 15

Milner 21 since Nov 15

The same site has Chamberlains games missed as 155 for Arsenal and Us.

He has been unlucky but so have others. Knew what we got when we bought him. Hope he recovers soon and plays all season uninterrupted.

That's really a lot for a goalkeeper.

Its a good point, but I don't really see any difference between the Ox we signed and the one we saw last season.

It was only at the latter end of his extended run in midfield that I remember really believing he belonged in there.

That was a midfield that previously had Gini, Hendo, and Fabinho, and needed something a little different.

It may be his injury, but my guess is that without another long run in midfield, we'll never know.

And I doubt he'll ever get that again.

He had a great run of form from the Klavan Burnley game until he got that injury.

Sadly, he just hasn’t been the same since and he was pretty poor in the majority of the games played last year. Constantly giving the ball away seemed like he was always getting the hook on the hour.

Shame tho cos he always gave his all, even when nothing was going right for him.

I’d say from before that Burnley winner. He had a number of assists for Salah beforehand. I can’t pin point an exact game but one v Chelsea at Anfield springs to mind.

Also, last season he was used out wide a lot, due to lack of options and none of us like him out there. I hope when he’s back he gets more of a run in midfield.

Allow me to help. Of the ten nanoseconds he played last season, six were out wide.

Nonsense.

All his performance and positional stats from last season are below:

When we’ve had underwhelming players like Downing, Shelvey, Moses, El Zhar, Miereles and a few others down the years, I find it hard to get on Ox’s case.

If Ox is one of the biggest problems in our squad, that only shows what a good position we’re in.

Incredibly dark times.

Would he get near this squad? At the very best, he’d be no closer the starting line up than Ox.

He barely played for Chelsea & then got lumped out to Turkey, which IMO, sums him up.

Yeah that’s fair, he was shite at Chelsea. Can’t believe Yossi went there too.
