Fair play for admitting it Gordon.

Hahaha. When I was stationed in Dülmen (Germany) my mate and myself were dicked to take the youth club (pads brats) to the concert in Hanover in a mini bus, and basically make sure they got there, and more importantly all got back. Like I said, they were surprisingly good. I remember that those one hit wonders Berlin (take my breath away/Top Gun fame) were backing them up.

Mark Knopfler is superb live too...vast majority of his musicians have all been with him 10 years plus, and he himself says they put him to shame technically.

I had the pleasure of seeing Dire Straits live at the Hammersmith in London, if I had to pick one concert that blew my mind it would be that one. They used it for the Alchemy Live double album which has to be one of my favourites.

Ray La Montagne has a stunning voice live, as does Skin from Skunk Anansie, who is just a generally brilliant front-woman.

Great shout, we watched him in this large pub in Bielefeld (God knows how they got him to do a gig there, probably through contacts and the fact he was filling in gaps in a large tour) and there was only about 30 of us in there. He was fucking ace and was also telling stories about his life and music as well as doing a complete set. I remember getting pissed as a fart and spending a twatting fortune.

The The with Johnny Marr back in '90 still sticks in my mind but being one of the first gigs I ever went to I suppose it would always be up there.

After that stick a pin in any of these ....

Alice Cooper

Wilco

Drive by truckers

Rush

Foo Fighters

The War on drugs

Oh shit the Foo Fighters the day after my wedding were fantastic, can't believe I forgot them.

I actually liked Kaiser Chiefs and saw them at festivals twice and it was only the 2nd time I saw them that I decided that I didn't like them any more when they decided to sing the chorus of Oh my God for 15 minutes straight. So not them.

The best live act isn't necessarily my favourite.  I've nodded to previous suggestions of The The, Pixies, Bjork, Air and of course Springsteen who just blew me away - all great live performances.

But the best live act I've seen was James Brown.

Agreed, of the bands I've listed, I've only got albums from Doves and that was following seeing them live.

Saw James Brown in 1999 and he let Al Green do all the work. Was pretty disappointed

AC/DC were unreal live. The Prodigy just edge them but I'm sure the narcotics helped that. Primal Scream, Kasabian and the Police are next in line. I've seen Oasis loads of times but I've always been shit faced. I'd love to have seen them in the 90's at their peak. The stone roses at Heaton Park were boss as well.
