So a third place finish for the youngsters, 5 points behind the league winners Everton but 10 ahead of 4th place Arsenal. Not bad considering the squad was plundered at certain periods of their season due to injuries/cup games for the seniors.

So he wouldn't look out of place in our first team then.

It was Plymouth mate with a patchwork team, I know we are bad at times, but not that bad.

A few youngsters have been released in the past few days, including rather surprisingly, Adam Phillips.

Phillips, along with Brad Garton, Jake Brimmer & Ted Cann have been released by the club.

I know nothing of Cann, other than that he was a keeper for the 16s and appeared on the bench for the 18s a couple of times this season.

Brimmer, Garton & Phillips have all spent lengthy time on the physio's table this past year or so, yet it did surprise me when I read that Phillips had been let go. Talented midfielder, and one we did have high hopes for a season or so back.

Jordan Williams is also expected to leave once his contract expires.

Brewster just scored a nice goal for England U17 in the final against Spain, but the ref chalks it off for a foul (bad call, there didn't seem to be a foul).

Brewster done well this tournament, though the main man for England has been Jadon Sancho of City.  Very good player, though Rhiann looks like a decent player at this level as well and has scored a few.

Edit: England now 1-0 up, looked a great goal by Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea but replays show a big deflection took what would have been a bad shot well wide and turned it into the corner.  Brewster still hardly getting a touch with Spain playing very defensive, perhaps the goal will open them up a bit.

  • 1 month later...

First pre-season game tonight at Rhyl, obviously NOT on the telly box, in front of perhaps dozens of locals at a tenner a go...

That MIGHT be four at the back, with Masterson in midfield, or else it's Whelan and Johnston - both of whom are regularly used in the middle of defence - as "wing backs".

No sign of Joe Hart or Juanma.

On the bright side, Jordan Williams is still here, and if we clone him by half-time, he can play both full-back slots in the second period.

The 23s won 2-1 at Rhyl.

The home side took the lead early doors, but Toni Gomes headed in an equaliser around midway through the first half.

Cameron Brannagan grabbed the winner in the 84th minute from the penalty spot.

Brannagan nets the winner as U23s beat Rhyl in friendly

Cameron Brannagan netted the winner from the penalty spot as Liverpool U23s came from behind to beat Rhyl 2-1 at the Corbett Sports Stadium on Wednesday night, writes Fat Ste.

The Welsh outfit took a fourth minute lead courtesy of a spectacular strike from Alex Titchener, but Toni Gomes levelled for Neil Critchley's side. Both teams then had opportunities before the young Reds were awarded a penalty six minutes from time, and Brannagan held his nerve to seal the victory.

Reflecting on the win, Critchley told Liverpoolfc.com: "It was a good work out for us and it was great to get the first game under our belts. Rhyl were great hosts and there was a good crowd who saw a decent game. We have only been back training for a week so it was good to step up our fitness and there were some good performances."

Liverpool U23s: George, Whelan, Johnston, Jones, Masterson, Phillips, Coyle, Virtue, Brannagan, Gomes, Dhanda. Subs all used: Firth, Williams, Parker, Alves, Kane, Camacho, Simmonds, Millar.

Dynamite, any idea why Wilson never played at Tranmere or Rhyl , is he injured ?

Not seen anything to suggest he's injured, but I can only assume that this is the case.

I know Woodburn came back to pre-season with a slight knock after he'd pulled out of the Wales squad during the international period, so I was actually surprised to see Ben in the squad against Tranmere, but certainly have not heard anything about Wilson.

With any luck we'll see Harry involved against Wigan this evening, or at least get some indication if he is carrying a knock or doing some rehab work.

There was no Ejaria on Wednesday either. Again, no news on whether he's got a knock, so hopefully we find out the current condition of Ovie this evening too.
