Oh I’m not complaining or in any way questioning his desire or effort, but I thought there were two or three occasions when I expected him to get away from defenders by pure pace or strength and it didn’t happen. I think he’ll need very careful management over the next two months

Yeah that’s fair enough. Also pretty clear he’ll have more of a target on his back this season because of his previous exploits. I can see Sadio outscoring him, actually. He’s due a massive breakout season himself

Jamie Redknapp made a comment during the game yesterday in which he basically called him a poacher.

 

I thought that was derisory and that he was far too good in general play last year for that to be true, but I wouldn't be surprised if Klopp turned him into a Cristiano Ronaldo-esque penalty box finisher and we don't go through him as much this year to keep defenders off him in non-dangerous areas.

I always assumed that half of the beauty of it would be if defenders are on him in the non dangerous areas then they aren't keeping an eye on Bobby or Mané who are going into the dangerous areas at the same time.

I wouldn't rush to judgement on that, mate. Spoke to the player and cutting it off before there's any nonsense. Pay a fine and move on.

Exactly. Get it in police hands before the media witch hunt kicks off. Explain the situation and apologise and walk away with three points and a fine rather than six points after a media character assassination.
