Barmby, Xavier, etc. If we show them enough cash, they will sell.

He is close I've seen to young Steven Gerrard...

Maybe after Draxler.

Aside from Rooney, he's the best talent they've had at the club since the 80s. There's no way they'd sell to us.

They did sell Rooney after all.

We're probably in pole position, mainly cos the other bigger teams have an abundance of talent at AM.

I'd be happy to keep Suarez and spend the budget on him.

Not to us they didn't. Would he even want to come here? He's as bitter a blue as they come isn't he? There'll be other teams in for him if Everton wanted to sell and we wouldn't pay 30m for a teenager.

Brilliant talent, though.

Carra was a bitter blue. We probably wouldn't, but I'm saying we should as he is going to be world class.

But he never played in Everton's first team and was brought through our academy.

There's as much chance them selling Barkley to us as there is us selling Suarez to Man Utd.

Song would be an excellent addition.

Whoever we want to buy we should frankly be making in-roads now. Things will change in the next three months, be it injuries for us or other players becoming available, but either way I hope we aren't sat here with stupid fucking looks on our faces come Jan 31st after not securing anybody.

The last window was criminally managed.

We're now being linked to Matic and Pastore, either of which would improve us measurably.  And if both came, well, then I'd stop worrying about whether we would make top 4 and start thinking about whether we could challenge for the league.

One thing about this new transfer committee - we are definitely being linked to a much-improved class of players since they've been around.  We may not have brought many of them in, but Sakho, Papadopoulos, Costa, Mkhitaryan, Willian, Muriel ... either someone is briefing the media on false targets, or else we're starting to target exactly the kinds of players we're crying out for.

Pastore cost PSG £40m. No way they will let him go for much short of that.

Plus he is an AM and we have Coutinho, and Suso. We don't need him.

Song on the other hand... put me down for a bit of that.

if you want to be in the champions league and challenge for the title, you aren't doing that with Suso, at least not in the immediate future.

I would think people would realize by now that we are one more injury away from basically being impotent attacking wise.  we need much more depth in attack and sterling's play of late should serve as a warning against us relying too much on the kids.

pastore would be an excellent addition.  more competition for places lifts players' games.  and we could actually afford to rest someone like Sturridge every now and again.  to me its been lucky that he's not an injury that required more than a few days recovery.

I don't think anybody is questioning whether or not Pastore would be a good addition to the squad. Actually, I think a lot of people would like him, and many other players from that squad and others. The question is whether or not he's a feasible acquisition, and he almost certainly isn't.

Not sure about that, to be honest.  Rumour was that he was available for somewhere around £17 million (due to wages, I would imagine).  Which is still going to be very expensive, given that he would probably be one of the highest paid players in our squad, but I think it could be done.

Obviously we're not likely to end up with Pastore and Matic, but I'm encouraged that again we seem to be looking for the right kinds of players.  Another top-level playmaker and a midfield dynamo and we would have solved pretty much all of our main weaknesses.

I'm pretty sure the post I quoted said "we don't need him". Therefore the question is whether or not that makes sense.

We don't need Courtois, Kompany, or Higuain. They'd still be good additions. It's pure fantasy, anyway.

I can't see us going for pastore in January. Even if we do go for him, we'll have to offer him his current wages before he'll even consider coming to us.

Banjo made a good point that there's no way psg are gonna sell him for 17m, no fucking way they would make such a loss on a player who's still young and when there's so many teams chasing after him.

Not only is Nemanja Matic exactly the type of player we should be going for, imo he is the player we should be going for.

Young, athletic, powerful, great on the ball, good in the ait, good tackler, quick...Didi Hamann's heir apparent.
