I went on a liverpool football forum for the first time on good friday 2005. I was temping at reception in a chiropodists with very little but the internet to keep me busy. So began my online life discussing liverpool with people I ll never know personally although I did meet rondeco once. In tribute to the digital age we live in, can you sum up the last 10 years of LFC in 160 characters or less.

Rafa, champions league, Gerrard, fa cup, athens, torres, hicks and gillett, alonso, hodgson, mascherano, fsg, kenny, carroll, suarez, league cup, rodgers, slip.

If you told me the night of Istanbul that we were only gonna win an FA cup and a League Cup in the next 10 years I would have bitten your face off and sent you to an institution for mental people with no faces.

What if you were told that people would then begin to claim winning trophies wasn't actually all that important?

I actually said this (in Norwegian though) to a friend of mine at his house minutes after watching the 07' final;

"The only positive I can think of right now is that we're back in Europe for good, and that we'll take part in several finals in the coming years."

I was that confident. With the midfield we had built and the solid backline+keeper and not least Rafa on our bench I couldn't really see us dropping off, even if we weren't spectacular to watch all the time. We had just undeservedly lost to a very good Milan side. When Torres joined us later that year I thought we were seeing a new golden era for us. I never felt like that in the "nearly years" of Evans (sometimes flamboyant football, but no spine or mental toughness), or the treble season with Houllier (plenty of solidity and mental toughness, but a lack of creativity and generally awful style of football). The 06-09 Liverpool sides combined both those traits, and with a bit deeper squad (a lot of money were invested badly even before the crooks complicated things further) we would probably have won more.

Last season was phenomenally exciting, and was the best I've felt since. I'm a bit worried right now though, as there's a chance we'll be left in the shadows of the financial superpowers we're competing with.

Edit: Apologies for not keeping to the tone of the thread. I'll do mine shortly.
