Wide Players Since Barnes...

Walters

Kewell

McManaman (was best centrally)

Smicer

Berger

Kuyt

Maxi

Riera

Downing

Riise

Leonhardsen

Pennant

Gonzalez

Zenden

Barmby

Murphy

Garcia

Nunez

Cisse

Heskey

Crouch

Diouf

What a shit depressing list!

I'm sure I have forgotten a few, but since Barnes the best wide player this club has had is probably Gerrard.

Surely one day we'll get the wide player we have been crying out for since Barnes moved central when his pace went?

Surely!

If your putting Cisse in there as a winger, then Suarez must be one too.

Which cancels out anything that happened before him. Barnes >= Suarez, whatever happened inbetween is irrelevant as we've had the best 2 left footed forwards ever. Possibly since time was invented.

Berger and McManaman were very good wide players for us.

Kewell was ace for half of one season.

Harsh on Kuyt.

Garcia and Barmby had some good games for us out wide. Very good.

As for the rest....erm......

Some good players in that list.

But we still don't have a wide player who can beat opposition defenfers time and time again - ones that can produce brilliance and create chance, after chance for others.

Ronaldo, Overmars, Nani, Giggs, Robben - these players win you titles as they are the main way to beat the shite teams who sit back and need breaking down.

It is why we should break the bank for someone like Hazard or Hulk this summer.

Cisse played right and left wing for us a few times. Not sure Suarez has, although he does drift wide and yes he probably is the one player in that list, along with Mcmanaman who could beat an opposition full back.

I mentioned Crouch because of that horrible Reading away game, which still scars me.

McManaman was best in the free role. What he ended up doing was switching wings or coming inside from the wings rather than playing centrally.

leonhardsen and Murphy wide players? Stop it.

During Houllier's later days Heskey played left wing and Owen and Baros the front 2. I thought Walters was decent, pity for him that he followed Barnes and his performances were never gonna match up to Barnes. Kewell was an amazing player and when he finally got himself fit for most of season 2005-06 he did very very well, unfortunately he didn't join Liverpool at the best of periods and he was injured all to often. Kewell was no dud though.

Le Tallec is missing from the list too. Leonharden played wide for us. He was wide right.

Crouch as a wide player? Are you on drugs? He played as a left forward away to Reading when we lost 3-1. That was the only time.

I said that above Robbie, you really should read properly, before getting arsey.

The list is fucking stupid.

OK adding Crouch was tongue in cheek.

But the rest played wide for us over the years.

What is stupid about it? Unfortunately over the years we have seen Heskey, Diouf, Murphy etc as our wide players.

Just look at the United wide players in that time:

Kanchelkis

Sharpe

Giggs

Blomqvist

Beckham

Nani

Proborski

Obertan

Valencia

Park

Ronaldo

etc etc

Because you've listed players that may have played there a handful of times, a lot of them are not wide players at all.

Pepe played in midfield once, to prove a point about shit midfielders would you include him?

Pepe played in pre season, to get fit.

Bit different - we actually played Diouf, Heskey, Murphy, Cisse out wide a fair few times.

Anyway if you stop being pedantic, you might realise the point is we haven't really had a top wide player who can beat opposition defenders for fun, since Barnes left.
