Going through some of the Mercury nominated albums that I've only heard bit of today and there's so much good stuff in there. Really makes a mockery of the people who always moan that modern music is rubbish. The opener from Michael Kiwanuka blew me away a bit. I'd heard some of his stuff but the opener is absolutely majestic. It's like a melding of Pink Floyd guitars and soul music. Beautiful stuff.

Kiwanuka was featured on the Joe Wiley show during the week where he expressed his admiration of Dave Gilmour. The last song played was his version of “Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood”, the old Animals classic and Kill Bill theme tune.

Kiwanuka’s version was a real mind-blower and well worth an airing. Can’t find it on you-tube but if you get the chance to hear it then treat yourself, it really is something extra special.
