Never really thought of The treasure of the Sierra Madre as a western tbh. One of the greatest films of all time though for sure.

Quigley Down Under is where it's at for a woke Western. 

 

I used to have a subscription to New Internationalist and every issue would have a film review, usually of some drearily worthy black & white independent filmed in a Lebanese refugee camp or something. I'll never forget the unbridled joy with which they greeted a mainstream adventure film that they could admit to enjoying.
