Mignolet

On a more serious note, if we look at the expected goals we should have conceded, Spurs, Man Utd, Man City and Chelsea are in the 3-5 range, while we are virtually double that. Map that out over a season and it gives our forwards far too much to do to help this team mount a title challenge. It's what we all know, but we simply must tighten up at the back.

Spartak was a reasonable effort defensively, fwiw.

I think we look back with rose tinted specs at some of the keepers of a few years back. I don't think they were subject to the same level of scrutiny that keepers are these days.

I don't think Mignolet is bad. All keepers make mistakes. Lloris let Alonso score a shit shit at his near post the other week to cost spurs a point against Chelsea. Shit keeping. Does he get subject to the same level of criticism as Mignolet? No.

Cech makes mistakes for Arsenal. I've seen Courtois make mistakes for Chelsea.

The issue with Mignolet is he isn't top class. And top class keepers win you a few point a season, and very rarely cost you with a mistake.

You can count those keepers on one hand. It's unfair to compare him to De Gea because the guy is absolutely class and worth 9 points a season to United.

I also think Mignolet gets unfair stick because, for a brief time, we did have one of those keepers. Reina was world class for a couple of years, almost no mistakes, commanding, could win a game with his distribution.

Yes I think we could do better than Mignolet, but he isn't shit, and he'd get in most premier league teams.

I can't see the chart as Twitter is blocked at work, but the goal that Leicester scored that should have been disallowed, and the goal that Watford scored that should have been disallowed would have had an expected goal total of approaching 2 (maybe about 1.7 at a guess), which accounts for a fair chunk of that difference. Yes, we are still high without them, but its a small sample so things like that can have a big effect.

Mig should be good number 2 at this club.

Easily one of the worst shot stoppers in the league. Considering that's the only thing he's supposed to be good at, then that says it all about his level.

This cunt wouldn't make Leeds first XI.

Yep. Hopefully Klopp sees it as well. Can’t keep giving this clown a go hoping he’ll improve.

He won’t he’s not good enough.

Mignolet the good shot-stopper is the myth that will never die for some reason.
