  1. You beautiful, beautiful people. Bit overwhelmed here reading this tbh. It's extremely humbling and difficult to process. I've been posting here for nearly a decade now and it's been a haven, getting me through some tough tines,a lot of which has been spent battling one type of ailment or another. I love the forums and have befriended some lovely folk on it. It's truly a special place. The good news is that the kidney my wife so kindly donated is to date, working perfectly. A super kidney as my surgeon Mr Robertson called it. But then again my Mary has always been Superwoman to me so not altogether surprising. The greatest human being Ive ever met and has literally saved my life and endured the pain of the Op in her uniquely calm manner. The procedure is a lot harder on the donor than the recipient but not one complaint from her. Amazing lady This will have a dramatic impact on my health and life so really looking forward to getting on with it once we get over this recovery period. Much thanks to ToxtethOGrady for starting the thread. Love you guys. Received this today from you all. We love it. Dec and Mary Xxx PS. CHAMPIONS

  3. This is really great. Genuinely, thanks for sharing. I have a big soft spot for Newcastle as my late dad was a lifelong supporter. He was born in Stanley, County Durham but moved to Yorkshire to go to medical school in the mid 1960’s. He used to tell tales of going to the match, as a boy in the 1950’s, often taking the same bus as one of their players who lived on the same row of terraced houses. The only difference between the Newcastle players house and my dads was that he had an inside toilet. Apparently we watched the 1974 FA cup final together. I was about eighteen months old at the time and cried all the way through. At least he said I was crying, I reckon I was cheering as Newcastle were “undressed, absolutely stripped naked”. Despite his best efforts, we used to go to St.James Park regularly and when they played in Yorkshire, my football allegiances were always elsewhere. He never showed his disappointment, although I’m sure he was. I miss him greatly.

  4. Pure gaslighting. Cummings. Jenrick. Johnson sr. The government decide when there's a case to answer, the government decide when there's a story, the government decide when the matter is closed. I don't think I've ever seen such a brazenly corrupt and callous set of bastards, but they completely and utterly understand modern politics: play to your base, keep playing to your base, play to your base a bit more and make sure your base continue to understand that everyone who isn't in your base is a danger to you and everything you hold dear. Cummings, Jenrick and Johnson sr. aren't a danger to you, nor is a lack of rules applying to them a danger to you: what's a danger to you is BLM, Corbyn, political correctness, immigrants, people who pull down statues of slavers and so on. Progress is terrifying. Rule-breaking is just a minor indulgence which we're appalling to try and make capital out of. Their base don't give a fuck about accountability or corruption. Their base care about Brexit, and hostile environments, and tough sentences on criminals, and imperial nostalgia - and as long as Patel keeps saying "points based immigration system" and Johnson wobbles on optimistically about "sovereignty" they'll indulge any little misdemeanour along the way. Fuck knows how it changes as well.

  5. Hats off to both Rob and Cath too; both wonderful, selfless people who genuinely care about others. Knowing them both though that comes as no surprise, but thank you both anyway for (once again) going above and beyond. Back of the net for The Mighty GF.

  10. I like drinking at home, but I must admit I do like the occasional nice pint of Guinness or porter in a decent boozer. Last pint I had in a pub before lockdown was in the Peveril of the Peak in Manchester when a good workmate was leaving! Great beer, nice little pub!

  15. Yes, Bernando Silva stood out at the time. Couldn't be arsed clapping, and then walked off while half our team was still in the tunnel. Seems a really snide that one. I think the greatest difference between the two managers is that Guardiola probably isn't actually a very good "people" person at all, while Klopp is phenomenal at that side of management. There seems to be very little balance with Guardiola, he's constantly on edge. The intensity and attention to detail is no doubt fantastic for developing a style of football, and improving players (I think we can often be a bit churlish about this, players like Sterling, both Silvas, De Bruyne, etc have improved immeasurably under his management) but I doubt many of the players will remember him that fondly as a man. It all seems to come far more naturally for Klopp.

  17. Was reading a thing in the Guardian the other week about how four 'authors' had resigned from Rowling's agency in protest at the ballyhoo. Two of them were a 'non-binary, transgender' couple called 'fox and owl' and were described as 'journalists, authors and broadcasters'. I think a big part of all this is that it gives nobodies a niche they can build a career around and be given almost parity with genuinely famous people like Rowling. If you're transgender and play your cards right you can absolutely forge an outrage career out of it, leave behind your zero hours cafe nero existence and find your faux woke Twitter katyushas being retweeted by rupert grint and have some lucrative blog offers heading your way.

  28. Honestly, if you're going the fucking pub this week then you're a fucking dickhead. For many it will just be a statement outing, there will be swivel-eyed goons sat outside pubs with pints and trying hard to look heroic but relaxed, hoping you'll notice and shout "well done mate" to them as you pass by. Although I'm not sure how they're going to guard statues and go the boozer, must be some rota.

  37. 10/11/2019: 51 mins: Liverpool – Man City 3-0. Good match between two good teams. Could be 3-3 at that time but wasn’t. 02/07/2020: 45 mins: Man City – Liverpool 3-0. Good match between two good teams. Could be 3-3 at that time but wasn’t. We played well until they scored. You can’t keep missing chances against a team as good as Man City, eventually you’re going to pay the price. That’s it really. Shit happens.

  40. Think it's a dumb confidence thing too. When I was out as a young lad if I'd seen a proper model type I wouldn't have gone anywhere near her. All the various permutations would go through my mind, "she goes out with a rugby wanker", "deffo not single", "might get a couple of laughs out of her then she'll fuck off." With him though, he'd be like "she's just a person, all she can say is no." And if she fucked him off he'd just move on to the next. Have always admired people like that, they never get depressed. It's like watching a puppy play with a pair of rolled-up socks, you can't understand what they're thinking but you wish you could be that happy.

  41. One thing that's often weirded me out when I've encountered couples where the women are significantly more attractive than their fellas, is that the fellas often don't realise it or even often act as though the opposite is true, and that the woman seems to think she's the lucky one. Me mate's ex had this friend called Steph and she was fit as fuck, she looked like a young Reese Witherspoon but more leggy and without the fucked up chin. Fellas would be like flies around shit on nights out and she was having none of it, but whenever he turned up she looked like a dog that had just spotted its own arse. He looked like James Nesbitt and was the most boring man I've ever met, he used to tell jokes all night, I mean like "knock knock" and "English, Irishman, Scottsman" style jokes non stop. She used to go the bar for him every time and he'd be actively eyeing up other women and saying stuff like "barmaid's a bit of alright!" to you while his Mrs was in earshot. Sometimes the world don't make sense. If I could go back to my randy young self I'd say, Yoda style, "you must UNLEARN what you have LEARNED."

  43. More than 300m spent on Dembele, Griezmann and De Jong, and all three of them have been utter, utter shite. 2-2 against Atletico in their last game, four minutes of injury time to go, and the manager sticks 17 year old Fati on instead of Griezmann. The club is an absolute mess. Really sad to see.

  44. I remember talking to a Barca fan in New York (from Barcelona) and it was when they had just signed Suarez. The offhand arrogance that he had about his club being in for our best player, coupled with his lack of compassion made me feel a lot better about shagging his bird.
