They have to justify a bigger stadium, that's difficult if you can't sell out your current one. 

 

The investor wants the new stadium on the cheap via some commonwealth games bid as it raises the value of his investment. They can theoretically sell more corporate seats and have decent corporate facilities, not some garden shed thrown up in a stand. 

 

But you can have the biggest stadium in the world, with the best corporate facilities and you still won't attract fans unless you're winning things. You especially won't attract fans from outside your city if you've spent the best part of 20 years boasting about how you are all local fans that go the game and deride teams that have worldwide support.

 

Of course Newcastle buck that trend, they sell over 50k tickets and they're shit.

I know but what I mean i mean is he's prepared to leave palace (and London) for not that big of a step up but probably a wage rise. Players will always move where the money is.

Everton are a miles bigger club than Palace in any single measure you look at.
