LIVERPOOL have entered the race for highly-rated Holland forward Eljero Elia.

Winger Elia, a member of the Dutch World Cup squad in South Africa, wants out of Hamburg and Liverpool’s director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, hopes his good relations with the German side can help broker a deal.

Hamburg want around £5million for the player, who is rumoured to be the subject of two offers from Italian giants Juventus. Liverpool would take Elia on loan or on a permanent basis, but their valuation is far closer to £3m.

Former Reds boss Rafa Benitez was interested in taking Elia to Anfield during his reign, but a deal could not be struck.

Now, though, manager Roy Hodgson and Comolli are more confident a deal can be done when the January window opens.

Cant see Hamburg letting him go for 5m. Hes worth way more.

Sturr Crazy: Roy Hodgson wants Daniel on loan in January

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge celebrates his goal

SturridgePic

Roy Hodgson is making a *surprise bid to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge in a bid to save Liverpool’s season – and his own job.

Kop boss Hodgson wants to take the England Under-21 international on loan with a view to a £5million transfer and will open talks with the Double *winners to push the move through for the start of the window.

Sturridge has yet to stake a place in the Chelsea starting line-up and could be interested in the chance of a game at the Kop – where Hodgson wants a new *attacker to give Fernando Torres help and the occasional rest.

The talented youngster, 21, joined Chelsea 18 months ago from Manchester City when his *contract expired but he has been left on the fringes at Stamford Bridge.

But Hodgson knows him well and thinks his kind of versatility – he can play through the middle or supporting the main striker – is just what he wants.

The fact Liverpool would like him on loan first – with a chance to buy if he does well – also adds fuel to the suggestion under-fire Hodgson needs to turn things round for his own sake.

Chelsea are aware of Liverpool’s interest in Sturridge but are yet to decide whether to let him go.

Boss Carlo Ancelotti will want another striker signed next month or he will leave himself short.

Ancelotti’s spies have been watching Cardiff City’s England new boy Jay Bothroyd, whose contract is up in the *summer, and there are other potential targets.

Sturridge cost Chelsea a fee of up to £5m at a tribunal.

Liverpool would pay that kind of money if he pays off for them. His big wages do not scare them either.

The loan arrangement would also suit the young striker who wants to be sure his next move – if he makes a permanent one – is right to make sure his career finally takes off.

Sturridge was in the City side at 19 but left after a contract dispute

That's the strangest rumour ever.

Manchester City will try to prise Fernando Torres from Liverpool in January as a replacement for Tevez.

Barcelona are planning an audacious £85m summer swoop for Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

Barcelona in summer swoop for Torres and Fabregas

Barcelona are planning an audacious £85million swoop next summer for Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres.

The Catalan club are now boosted by the massive cash injection from the huge sponsorship deal with Qatar Foundation which will be worth £125million over five years.

And this will enable the club to make sizeable offers for both Fabregas and Torres.

The Arsenal captain Fabregas is a native Catalan and was close to moving back to his spiritual home in the summer when Barcelona made their interest known.

He was persuaded to stay after long talks with manager Arsene Wenger – but he is unlikely to resist should Barcelona return in July.

Torres has had a strange season with Liverpool.

At times he has looked back to his best – as when he scored twice when Chelsea were beaten at Anfield this season.

But on other occasions, he has looked disinterested and appears disillusioned at Liverpool’s lack of progress while new manager Roy Hodgson carries out his re-building programme.

Torres is also wanted by Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid – but Torres would not go to the Bernabeu.

He grew up as an Atletico Madrid fan and played for the club. He would find it impossible to return to Spain and play for Atletico’s rivals.

Barca boss Pep Guardiola has assembled a squad of fearsome quality and are already hot favourites to lift the Champions’ League at Wembley next May.

But he has plans to maintain the domination in Spain and in Europe and already has a

hit list of players to bolster the squad for next season – with Fabregas and Torres top of the list.

And with the finance from Qatar, money will be no object.

£85m for them both?

Arsenal won't be happy geting £5m for Fabregas.

Why do they need Torres and Fabregas....their league is already far too uncompetitive. It seems Barca and Real want to grab all the talent they can as they know the two games against each other will decide the league every season. But both Arsenal and Liverpool will be fine without these two great players. Both are becoming a bit of injury prone and Cesc hasnt done anything this season for us, missed most of it with injuries and when he has played he has been poor

Because they have a small squad and maybe they want a Fabregas to replace Xavi in the long term?

Fabregas will leave Arsenal as he will not win anything there anyway.

mate he will win the league cup and the league this season

Chance of the league and i would much sooner see Arsenal win it rather then any of the other 3 challenging.

The league cup looks pretty certain for Arsenal as looking at the teams left i would be shocked if they didn't win it now.

Should take some of the pressure off Wenger if he wins some silverware.

Crazy in all fairness that he is under pressure in the first place as he has done and still doing a great job at Arsenal.

Fabregas won't win the league cup. One of the preconditions of winning something is playing in it.

I think we beat ipswich who ever we play over two games. Now you really think Wenger will take any chances in the final and no0t play his best team available. I expect Van persie, Fabregas and Nasri all start in the final We have played strong teams all competition
