Our best player is Torres.

Our most irreplaceable player is Torres (Benayoun can amply deputise in the Gerrard role; Ngog is simply no substitute for Nando, however).

The Liverpool player who has given United more problems than any other in recent seasons is Torres.

Therefore, Torres, and any other answer to the question deserves to be treated with contempt.

100% agree with that.

He's our equal best player IMO but he is in far better form than Gerrard this season.

Gerrard has been very average for his standards so far. On current form its arguable that Benayoun is a better option playing off Torres than Stevie.

If both were fit I'd have to play Gerrard in CM.

Based on this season, Torres. Gerrard has been a shadow of what he can do, Torres closer to his best, though not there yet.

Also, when Gerrard is out, the others look for all options, any player that is free. When Gerrard is in, the back four and midfield always go for him first, then others. That is where we miss Alonso most, he spread the ball more and other teams found it more difficult to deal with.
