Been in France a few days. Their native beer is mostly piss but there is one called Rince Cochon from Flanders which is lovely and the Fischer beers too (from a part which used to be Germany)

Having some Hitachino Nest white ale I picked up from Waitrose. Absolutely sublime. It's up there with the Innis & Gunn.

Big fan of this one, Martha Krieger Spitzenpilsner. Unflitered lager. Cracking when served cold on a warm day.

I went to some tiny brewery in the middle of nowhere last weekend. It is also a recording studio so they had loads of bands on and a beer festival. Loads of stupidly strong beer at 2 euro a pint made the 10k cycle back interesting.

It is nice but it's not brewed in Cornwall, despite it having the name on it's label, and the brewery was bought by Coors about 4 years ago so it's not as independent as it makes out.

Where do you cats stand on the ideal temperature to drink real ale? Saw some bloke from CAMRA once and he nearly had a schizoid embolism when I said I preferred my beer chilled. I've had it at room temp though and it didn't offend me.

Real ale generally is sold at cellar/line temperature. Cooling it excessively can dull the taste. Craft beer is what you want, it's usually chilled with the taste of real ale.

 

CAMRA might disagree on the latter opinion.

The reason they serve carling et al extra cold is exactly to dull the taste so real ale at that temp is a waste. Cellar temp is the best as stated above. My only complaint about ales at wethies is that they chill them too much. However for under £2 for an ever changing guest ale I'll make do

I've had a couple beer snob dilemmas in the past year. The first one was on the train to London some youths left about half a box of Carling on the train. Despite being a tight Cunt I couldn't bring myself to take that filth but still pondered whether I should have.

 

Dilemma 2 was my Cousin leaving Fosters at my place. I have palmed most of it off but did crack a can just to see if it was as horrendous as I remembered. It wasn't as shite as expected just incredibly bland.

Deffo did the right thing with Carling, absolute swill. It's not snobbery in my view because it's got nothing to do with price (I got some nice German beer from Alid recently 99p a bottle), it's simply to do with the fact it's horrible.

On a budget at the minute so trying not to spend over £2 for a bottle.  These from Tesco aren't too bad - £6 for four bottles
