Saw a youtube post yesterday where some fella was properly agonising over picking a top 10 Beatles song list. I agree it's difficult, but not impossible, even though I think it would change by the week.

 

Having run through their albums in depth, this weeks ten (in no particular order) would be...

 

I Saw Her Standing There

Paperback Writer

Rain

I Need You

Tomorrow Never Knows

Strawberry Fields Forever

Hey Jude

A Day in the Life

Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite

I'm really not sure about this but I'll have a go, in no particular order:-

 

Norwegian Wood

In My Life

Here There & Everywhere

Strawberry Fields Forever

Happiness Is A Warm Gun

Mother Nature's Son

Dear Prudence

I Want You (She's So Heavy)

I've Got A Feeling

Don't Let Me Down

 

To be honest, I think I would struggle picking my top 10 from the White Album so I done my list quite quickly to stop myself spending all day on it.

Too hard to pick a Top 10 but I think 'In My Life', 'Yesterday' and 'Here Comes The Sun' would all be in it. The first half of 'Hey Jude' is ordinary but the second half is anthemic.

It would appear we have polar opposite opinions of Beatles songs. I do agree that top 10 is too hard though. I'm going to have to think a bit.

That new mix of Sgt Pepper has made me appreciate the songs on that album even more. Particularly Mr Kite, it's astounding what is going on in that song.

Yeah, I've not picked a single song from Sgt Pepper, I do love the album though & have yet to hear the new mix.

 

I was thinking about putting She's Leaving Home in, an underrated song (if there is such a thing in the Beatles catalogue).

Definitely, Lennon was always lauded for his brutal honesty, but although it's a character based lyric, She's Leaving Home is an absolute heartbreaker and very working class. Same with Eleanor Rigby.
