Don't know if you should take my word for much of anything; I like to talk up how I was banging on about Aguero before he ever came to Europe and told a mate that Morata was the real deal when he was about 19 but I also thought that Lamela and Memphis Depay were going to be big successes as well.  I also once famously proclaimed that Liverpool had the next great attacker in our academy.  And no, I wasn't talking about Sterling, or even Suso - it was Lauri Dalla Valle (currently at Crewe, aged 25).

 

However, if you want to hear my prognostications, such as they are, if you want a player who's going to be the next big thing in terms of Europe-wide, look no further than Kylian Mbappe.  Just turned 18 and is already looking for all the world like the second coming of Thierry Henry.  If we're in for 2 wingers it would be brilliant if we could get him.  

 

We can't, of course.  He's well beyond our reach now that he's dominated the French league for a good few months as a teenager; he will go to Chelsea/City eventually for eleventy-billion quid.

Yep. He's already untouchable. Even before this season Monaco was reportedly knocking back 40m Euro bids for him from City and Bayern. Him and Dembele are freakish talents.

If we sell Sturridge and bring in a new striker I really don't want some young lad with potential. (Moussa Dembele excluded) I'd rather we brought in someone like Defoe or Hernandez. A proven scorer who can be relied upon to put the ball away. They won't be first team every week but more than capable of coming on/covering injuries/playing lesser teams in cups and what not and making a difference.

We would be higher up in the table if we had him this season i'm telling you. And still in both Cups. 

 

He hardly moves. He walks around the field most of the time for Sunderland. Could you imagine him trying to press the way Klopp would want him too?

Our previously mentioned targets:

 

- Draxler - now at PSG

- Pulisic - signed a new contract

- Dahoud - going to Dortmund

 

This could be beneficial for us in that we could focus our resources and energy on getting Brandt in.

 

We are setting ourselves to fail again by announcing who we're going for...

 

Always doomed to fail.

 

Whoever is telling the Echo our transfer targets really needs to shut the fuck up.
