I know the history of the time period. Indentured slaves were slaves. They were owned by the slave owners in the same way chattel slaves were owned. The indentured servitude could be extended easily in a court of law by the owner. They were SLAVES and the children that were born to them were also slaves.

Also, in any situation where there is oppression - either current or historic - Abbott's instincts are to side with the oppressed and Johnson's sympathies are with the oppressor.
