I can't believe that we've spent over £200m in two seasons and Lucas is still our most effective defensive midfielder and before some quim bangs on about Barce and not needing to be physically dominant to tighten up midfield I'll point to the fact that as busy as our midfielders are they are still constantly out muscled and dominated by shite like Crystal Palace and Hull.

Not sure to be honest mate, its a bizarre one. He obviously isn't at the physical level that a top flight premiership player needs to be at right now. He had a pretty poor preseason and his body looks shot.

 

I feel a bit sorry for him because injuries have taken they're tole and he is often the fall guy among the fans. I think he should find a new challenge and the club should have found a new player for his position. Rodgers has signed so many players, for so many different positions, but ironically or stupidly it could be the one signing he didn't make that gets him the sack.

Our season doesn't hang on Lucas Leiva. If others step up and play well then we can overcome not having replaced him with specialist DM.  Rodgers has a huge squad and I just don't think he will get the best out them . He's failed to find his best formation with less players,  That's what will get him the sack not the fact Lucas is past his sell by date.

Can will be the dm for the new season won't he? We should have signed a back up but with him hendo and Milner in the middle..er ..should be solid enough?

Assuming we're going with a back four, playing Can, Henderson and Milner would leave only three spaces for Benteke, Ings, Origi, Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Ibe, Markovic and hopefully a returning Sturridge.

 

Will be interesting to see how all that works out. The real dilemma will arise if/when Sturridge returns.

We don't bypass it, we try and get the ball from our defence into our central midfielders and get them to dictate the play from there. Apart from the season we chased the title and had Gerrard there, we have really struggled to do this with the likes of Allen/Henderson/Lucas. Last season was a car crash because we still tried to play this way and teams pressed Gerrard and he struggled.

 

If Rodgers mixes up our game this season and occasionally goes more direct into the strikers, and bypasses our midfield, i think we might be ok. If he still try's to play through the midfield with Lucas/Allen/Henderson/Can/Milner picking the ball up from the defence and trying to dictate play and pass from deep....i think we might struggle.

 

If we struggle and don't start well i can see him getting the sack. It's not all on Lucas, you're right, but him and Allen seem to be the two deepest midfielders in our team. If Rodgers doesn't change his style a bit i think not getting better than those two, might be his downfall.

Coutinho will be the key to the midfield. If he can operate as one of the three it opens alot up.

Also Sakho is very adept at finding outlets beyond the holding mid - we  are going to be very easy to contain if we play 4 at the back and have Skrtel and Lovren trying to play it out on the ground.

The bit highlighted is the key and given it took Rodgers half of last season to realise what was going wrong and adapt the system it doesn't bode well. He's never shown us anything to suggest he can quickly adapt successfully to new dynamics which has been one of my

main concerns
