Therese Coffey, who claims to be a Liverpool fan, is part of the parliamentary enquiry that starts tomorrow, and it seems she is appearing far from impartial.

On 6 July 2011, Ms Coffey defended Rebekah Brooks in the News of the World phone-hacking scandal. Therese Coffey said a "witch hunt" is developing against Brooks. She said that simply to say she was editor at the time is not enough evidence against her. There were loud groans in the Commons as she said Mrs Brooks's own phone is thought to have been tapped and Ms Coffey says the problems are not "unique to one news group".

Her twitter is @theresecoffey if anyone wants to remind her of her responsibilities.

What a cuntish remark.

Well you can, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. LFC as we know it, and The Liverpool Way, was built by Shankly in his image, how does that work with being a tory?

If you think it's just eleven rich dickheads falling over and pretending to be injured every week then I suppose it's no issue. If you think a club is meant to actually represent some shared values or a community then, well, then it just doesn't work does it?

Some amazing work being done by LULZSEC Hacktavists in crashing the Murdoch empire right now, lots of redirects from The S*n website, a fake story on the death of Murdoch (Shame it's fake) posted on the front of the S*n website.

oh and just for good measure they have obtained many emails from the S*n's internal servers they are going to release tomorrow, that they say will bury Murdoch!

oh happy days.......

Being able to transcend social and political divisions in pursuit of a common goal is the essence of what any sporting community should be about, IMO. Football as an expression of raw political allegiance has produced nothing but resentment, racism and violence.

Aye, Tories don't do common goals though. They do survival of the fittest dressed up as common goals.

No, yours is the cuntish remark. Never forget what the bastard Tories did to Liverpool. Footy is a working mans game and always has been. Fuckoff and play cricket if you're going to defend those lot on here.

"The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life".

What a fucking gigantic legend of a man ...

I’d be interested to hear how many people on this website would genuinely and honestly practise the socialism that Shanks speaks of if they were lucky enough to have success in their professional life. I think it’d be a hell of a lot less then the people ready to quote it and claim it as genius.

I understand, and in a lot of cases, agree with strength in numbers and the idea of what is good for one is good or all, but even in those cases, the majority want the most they can get for themselves. It's not about what's a fair deal, it's about what's the very most we can squeeze them for.

Maybe it's just me, but I have no interest in listening to football people telling me how I should live my life. I'd rather they just spoke about what they were truly good at, and that's football. I suppose in a way it somewhat annoys me when people treat a person who is clearly supremely gifted at one thing as if they are gifted at everything. And yes, with total respect, admiration and downright awe and love, I include Shanks, in that.

EDIT – By the way, not directed at you Zig, I’ve no idea of your ideals.

No it’s not. It has been shown many many times that it’s not. There was even a book written that used Liverpool as an example in the 1950s how football was the great leveller because a factory floor worker could be standing beside and cheering his team on with a heart surgeon.

I hate this bullshit about how it’s just for the “working class” Utter wank.

Probably less than a handful do.

I still enjoy seeing tory cunts being rounded up and ridiculed though. Even better when their support for the club is questioned. Love it.

Not being sarcastic, I genuinely revel in it.

Very, very few do though. Human nature unfortunately.

That's the beauty of Shanks, he's an ideal, a utopian dream that most of us mere mortals couldn't possibly live up to. We're still better for having him as an aspiration though
