It's a very low scoring league so it's difficult to tell what a striker from France is like based on goals scored.

 

What sort of return did Benzena have?

I posted the below on another site regarding Remy Loics scoring rate last year.

 

 

I know what you mean on the face of it it doesn't look that great however when you consider his team finished the season in 15th place 14 goals is not exactly bad.

 

I say this because I looked at the top scorers at the at the Champion League teams like Marseille, Bordeaux and Lyon and Remy scored four goals less than Niang who plays for the Champions Marseille. He out scored Chamakh (Bordeaux), who only scored 10 as well as scoring 1 less than Lisandro Lopez - at Lyon - who scored 15.

 

Only four other players scored more last season. The fact that the top scorer in the league only scored 18 goals tells me two possible things a) that the strikers aren't up to much or b) the defending is not as bad as we would assume it is. I'm inclined to believe it's the latter looking at the performances of Bordeaux and Lyon in last years champions league.

 

By the way he also out scored other better known, world cup strikers like Asamoah Gyan and Gervinho.

 

Not saying we should buy him by any means, I haven't seen him play bar youtube footage, just trying to point to the fact that his goal scoring ratio may not be indicative of his overall quality. Plus Torres has shown us that some strikers thrive in different leagues.
