This is a link to stuff done by The Sound Agents about Chinatown and the Liverpool Chinese community.

Before my time but the boozer The Nook used to call last orders in Cantonese. Not open anymore.

Of course, there’s the scandal of the Chinese seaman deported after WW2, leaving wives and children to wonder what had happened.

There’s a memorial down at the Pier Head about it.

Fascinating 1930s film of Liverpool. In some shots, you could almost mistake the setting for New York! There's a look of smog over the city and, no health and safety for the lads working at height on some buildings!

Very interesting to watch that.

Very good. I remember the city centre buildings being filthy as a kid and I just assumed they'd been made of black stone. After the Clean Air Act and ater the buildings were cleaned, the difference was astonishing. Remember some of the smogs, too, when you could almost taste the air.

Brilliant.  And terrifying.

I've had that Liverpool 800: Culture, Character and History by John Belchem for ages but never got to it.  That's definitely made me want to read it.

Brilliant watching that. The India Buildings part gives me bad anxiety, not only cos the workers are running round on iron girders with zero safety features, but also the whole building looks like its put together by old fellas with a hammer and spanner.
