With the 100th and final issue of ‘The Liverpool Way’ fast approaching we’re looking to get your input on a series of articles featuring ‘the best and worst of’ the TLW era, which spans from August 1999 when the first issue was printed, to now as we prepare to declare once reaching a century.

You’ve been voting so far this week on the keeper and back four, and yesterday we looked at the right side of midfield. Today let’s go for the opposite flank. There’s five to choose from, and that’s without even mentioning the likes of Nabil El Zhar, Harry Kewell, Bolo Zenden, Stewart Downing, Ryan Babel, Oussama Assaidi and Lazar Markovic. We really are spoilt for choice on this one.

So who’s the worst of this not so fantastic five? You decide.

Jovanovic, not close.

Leto is/was a decent player, not sure what he's doing on there.

It was that European game at Anfield when he was like a scared rabbit. When I started this 'worst XI' thing I kept getting messages on twitter from people just throwing his name in. The other one who got loads of mentions was Danny Wilson. I had Wilson in the list of centre backs but scratched him last minute on the basis he was only a kid.

On reflection, it's probably unfair to include Leto while not listing Wilson in either the left back or centre backs. Not that it matters as he's not going to win, he'll probably get the least votes I imagine.

Jovanovic all the way for me.

Cheyrou was the biggest disappointment out of those five. Jovanovic was horrible. Both of them scored a couple of goals though...

Diomede gets the nod for being absolutely rubbish.

I can barely even remember Diomede playing for us apart from that bycle kick against Sunderland that crossed the line & was never given - he was robbed of a awesome goal there. Did he play in any other games for us?

I can only remember Leto playing once for us in a CL game v Marseille & he was bad. Again, did ever play again? Didn't he have a dodgy Argie-Itialian passport?

Gonzalez was poor but didn't he score the winner in the qualifier that set us on the road to Athens?

Cheyrou, despite being shite, did score a handful of goals for us, including a winner at Stamford Bridge.

Jovanovic gets my vote though. He was purely awful & unless I'm wrong, his only goal was v Northampton, one of our worst results ever. He got more chances than player like the other 4 who were only bit player players, this cunt seemed to start every game under The Hodgesaurus. Despite being a Benitez signing, I still blame Woy.

Jovanovic for just total utter shitness and lack of any semblance of ability. Kewell for being a self contented waste of space who is the kind of player who probably thinks he did okay here when he was a lazy shirker.

Jovanovic gets it though for me. I remember a sub appearance v Wigan not long after Kenny took over and he was comically out of his depth inept.

I can't remember seeing Diomede ever play for us except for that one overhead kick that everyone still talks about. Trust us to sign the one useless cunt from that World Cup winning squad who wasn't named Stephane Guivarch.

Leto was unfortunate in that his most memorable appearance for us was in a highly disfunctional team selected by Rafa in the Champions League. Leto did well out n Greece although in fairness, that is no barometer for a player's true quality. The dodgy passport fiasco didn't help matters.

Cheyrou had ability in abundance but not the appetite. He looked like he was frightened of his own shadow and was very mediocre bar that one month spell where he scored a handful of goals and got a couple of assists.

Gonzalez was quick and had some technical ability but he seemed to lack game intelligence. It didn't help that Rafa changed the midfield a bit too much by incorporating wingers in Gonzalez and Pennant instead of the midfield set-up that had been so solid the year before.

Jovanovic gets the vote though. Rafa had pursued him prior to getting the sack so he probably had a better idea of what to do with him than Hodgson had, but either way, the Serb looked like he'd never played football before and was clearly here for the payday and nothing more. The sort of waste of a shirt that we've specialised in bringing in over the past 25 years.

Cheyrou scored a winner at Stamford Bridge even though he was fucking shite, many Liverpool players have failed to do that over the years.

Gonzalez was playing alongside some boss players in a Benitez team so his shitness was probably compensated for. For me it's got to be Diomede. I remember this was when French players were flavour of the month ( see Cheyrou amongst others), so hopes were high.

Absolute fucking dogshit and that comparison is probably a bit unfair on dogshit.

How damning is it to be the overwhelming winner of a poll of such universally poor quality players? Christ we have signed so much utter dross over the years. Wasted hundreds of millions of pounds on fees and wages. It's disgusting to be honest.
