Skrtel rejects 'unacceptable' contract. So what now?

Skrtel does not seem to be asking for Sturridge money he wants 100k according to this.

Parity with Henderson it seems pretty fair, just reach a compromise and give him a 2 year extension.

Skrtel wants a contract worth £100,000 a week. Liverpool can't afford not to give it to him, or they risk losing Skrtel on a free next year.

  1.

Skrtel's contract has one year left and still isn't sorted. Currently on £60,000 a week, he wants a pay rise not determined by appearances.

You would assume even if had a poor season he would sell for 5-8 plus million (due to age) next summer if they strike a deal.

I would be very surprised if he is not here come Sept 1st.

There does seem to be little downside unless the manager wants to try something different in defence.

I cant wait for Sakho to prove this but until then Skrtel remains our best, most consistent defender. Opinions based on reality and not what you wanna see.

According to this you can get compensated if players are injured.

If clubs take out certain policies.

Not only can you cover players wages and be compensated. You can get paid out if an injured player impacts on your results resulting on less income.

If we weren't going to blow the money on Ashley Williams or some other such mid-table Premier League centre half i'd fuck him off and take the money. But like in 2012 when we last gave him a contract rather than sold him we're not going to sign anyone better and he's an experienced player who's been here a good while. He has his moments but he's one of the top centre halves in the league.

He's proved under proper defensive coaching he's a good defender. He was our player of the year the season before Rodgers took over.

You give Henderson 100k a week, then don't be surprised if everyone at the club fancies the same.

It was the Sturridge contract that fucked everything up. Henderson, Sterling and Skrtel wanted more parity to a player never on the pitch.

Have to say I'd be pissed off if I were a player that hardly ever misses any playing time and who had on more than one occasion had staples put in my head before going back out there, and they offered me some shitty pay as you play deal like I was some sort of Sturridge/Sakho/Agger walking sicknote.

or maybe it's a club strategy going forward whereby we've learned from what's happened to Sturridge and we're not going to pay £150,000 a week for a player to sit in the treatment room for 7 months of the season.

If Skrtel isn't injured then fine, he's got no problems going forward, rake it in lad.

If he does get injured, then the onus is on him to properly rehabilitate as per the instructions of the staff and get himself back into the team and earning again.

Is anyone surprised after this last season that we are now implementing safeguards against players being shit professionals? Especially for players aged over 30 who are now technically more likely to get injured?

I feel for Skrtel in a way, but not in others. The contract offer wasn't designed just for him, it's obviously a template for all contract offers from here on in.

What's disrespectful about negotiating a contract?

Simple for me, Skrtel says it is. I'd take his opinion any day over Rodgers, Ayre, Gordon, the Committee, and FSG.

He's not an outstanding player but I think we've got other more pressing issues. Seems the way this is being handled we're creating another opportunity for the Committee buy some shit.

Oh. Yeah, means very little to me when he's blerting it out in the press as a clear tactic to earn more money.

He still has more credibility than the owners and management of the club. He's been around a while and speaking out like this is not something he's known for. Whereas the doing it on the cheap approach of our ownership is well established. So yeah I take his side on this one.

You're very welcome to do that, but I don't see how assessing his ability and offering what they think is fair is disrespectful to him. He hasn't been offered what he wants, that's a shame for him who has earned tens of millions from the club already, but he's not being disrespected.
