Longest test innings of all time by Cook for Englishman and the third longest of all time..

Interesting fact Cook has now batted longer than the combined total match time of England in the Rugby and that other sport that can't be mentioned on here World Cups

The odd thing is that a great knock like Cook's should offer a lot of stability while the other end looks to score more freely to keep the game moving along.

You look at Ali, Bell and Bairstow who can all play shots, between them they've scored a century but needed more than 60 overs to do so! One can only assume a draw was always the aim after day 2.

It's been a real dead wicket, bugger all in it for the bowlers yet still hard to score runs quickly. The only chance both teams had of forcing a positive result was relying on the other team to give wickets away by rash shots, this is more likely to come about if you just go for it. I stopped watching this game after day 1 and have only popped in to watch it here and there, the pitch is a disgrace as far as test cricket goes as nothing has really changed over the 5 days.

Imagine trying to explain that game to someone who knows fuck all about the sport.

"Yeah, nothing happened for four days then on the fifth day it actually got interesting but it got a bit dark so we called it a draw."

Or ask an ex-manager:

'How can you tell your wife you are just popping out to play a match and then not come back for five days?'Rafa
