not good , not good at all .Didn't move off the bench all nite from what I could see ,hate to say it but he was sitting there muttering like houllier did ...very uncharacteristic of him

Such a weird night,Started off like the best pornstar in the world ,ended up as lifeless and deflated as one of rashids inflatable dolls

Fuckinghell, how did we lose this ....we were all over em again.Instead we waste shitlod of chances ,crowd seems to disseapear and looked ominous ages before half time

Can't put my finger on the precise reason why this is happening with such regularity ,the easy "strikers aren't scoring" isn't the sole reason ,not all the clear cut chances missed are at the hands of the strikers

Fucking gutted - please ,If yer up there ,please kill this forum for the next week superman

I saw several pictures of him just as animated as usual. Think you`re just looking for more reasons to be depressed ;)

Look on the bright side...we just lost to Benfica...surely Real M wont hire a coach that cant beat Benfica?

Gav. That is arse. he was up and about like he usually is. We lost. That happens. We shouldn't have. That happens. Arse on Sunday. They think they are all that for knocking out Real. Let's have it.

I stand corrected guys , but I was meaning more towards the second half .Every time the cameras went on him ,all I saw was him sitting muttering

Must've missed all the touchline antics when the paramedics were stitching up my wrists

so fucking gutted ,they are not a good team

Gav, i know your a corkman, so im guessing you watched RTE`s coverage

dont take every word from Dunphy to heart, rmember, just because he talks to Graeme Hunter on his newstalk show once a week, doesnt mean he has every piece of insider news from, Hunter gets more wrong that right

BUT, what i will say, and we cannot argue with, is the fact Rafa has walked out on a team before, because the board wouldnt back him, and Valencia where a hell;uva lot better than we where, so needed less cash

i just hope someone invests in us, otherwise, it wont be Gerrard we have to worry about losing, it could be Rafa :no

I saw him out of his seat a few times throwing his arm about. One particular instance was during the first half when Traore just launched the ball up the field and it went straight out for a goal kick.

Yep. He sure did tell Traore what he meant...

The lack of movement and ofc clinical strikers are the 2 main reasons.

The strikers don’t score when they should and when Garcia, Gerrard and Kewell don’t do the long run we are just passing the ball all over. And at the end we have to use the long ball.

When Gerrard manage to do the runs, the chances came. But he can’t de the only one who tries. They knew about him ofc and he didn’t get much space.

At least the best team lost, we where miles better in both games. Pity we didn’t strike one or two goals. This will make the pressure bigger on our strikers.

But Fowler did score again IMO. Next game he will put it away. Fact.

I was sitting directly behind him in the main stand (row 25 anyway). In the first half he was his usual self, but I agree that for the first 15 or 20 minutes of the second half he spent most of that time in his seat. He then became more animated, especially when Robbie and Didi were introduced.

It's the whole team as an attacking unit. I really would like to see Cisse given a few games up front. I think Morientes has had a fair crack of the whip, and hasn;t really impressed me. Cisse deserves a decent go.

Also Garcia and Kewell are not up to it. Garcia is very light weight, and bar his sporadic wondergoals, is not a player who will gibe it all week in week out. Kewell, well, fat, shit haircut, and frankly a shadow of his Leeds days.

As for Crouch, great lad, but not going to get the 20 goals a season that we clearly need from a striker. However, I think he would benefit from better service, and I would like to see him play up front with Cisse for a few games, or maybe Fowler for variety.

As for tonight's game, well we couldn;t score, and didn't look like scoring even if the game would have gone on for another 90 mins. Simple as that. Benfica took the chances, and rode their luck a bit in defence, but they shut us out for 180 mins, just as we shut Chelsea out for 180 mins last year. Credit to them, and good luck for the rest of the tournament.

I was sat behind the bench high up in the main Stand and Rafa was certainly up plenty of times. I couldn't see him muttering because he had his back to me. The frustrating thing is that we have lost to a poor team.

I don't think they are a poor team. I went to watch them in home leg against CSKA in UEFA Cup last season and was struck by how much they were underachieving (they went out after only managing a 1-1 draw). Koeman has fashioned a canny team there, and I think they benefit in CL from how much opposition teams underrate them.

Until last week they were 5th in the Portuguese league. If they come up against Barcelona/Milan/Juventus they will be taken apart.

I know, and that's why I said I think they're underachieving. I can't comment on their domestic form as I've not seen any of their games, but I've been impressed by what I've seen in CL games. To be honest, I can't see them beating Barca, but Milan or Juve (who I don't rate at all outside of their domestic league) I could see it.

Careful mate, remember your 'footballing lesson' Italian-style last year.

And when I said we'd win the CL last year you claimed I was 'drinking Canada Dry'.

Are you sure he did`nt say that if we won you`d be drinking Canada dry?

And by the look of your posts on the 25th of May last year you were pretty close to doing just that! ;)

Gav, have a little humility mate, they are a good TEAM. they played really well last night, they played like we played in these stages last year, good defensively, great movement, rearely wasted possesion after the first 20 or so minutes. gutted we lost, but give them some credit please.
