Do you prefer using road names or road numbers?

Hearing people talk about road numbers got me thinking on this…surely you could plan an entire journey using one or the other but some people take pride in memorising them.

My late Father in Law was a coach driver who worked until the day he died aged 75 and his knowledge of the roads was encyclopedic.

If ever we were going anywhere I'd always ask him the best route and he's just rattle it off the top of his head. Motorways, A roads, B roads and he was always spot on.

A bit like London cabbies having 'The Knowledge ' I suppose.

I heard someone order a Chinese over the phone in numbers once and it blew my mind

Might try it this weekend and see what I end up with.

Turn right onto the A275, under the bridge and onto the A23 and the handbrake turn onto the M2.

Neither.  My directions usually are:

"You need to head down that road that Barry used to live in, you know the one, his folks still live there.  Keep going and then turn right at the Tesco and head up to O'Neills pub.  Another couple'a hundred yards past that turn left and then just past the cemetery where Flaho's da is buried and it's on your right".

1,653 pages on the GF and I think this has to be the most boring thread title. Quite an achievement.

Boring in a funny way?
