Sturridge is our best striker and should play through the middle

I dont think Klopp is trying to force sturridge out. But I do think he's trying to show him that he doesnt want a player who's going to drop out of games because he's got a little niggle and thinks he can walk back into the team just because he's called Daniel Sturridge either.

I hope sturridge is here for years. His goals would be missed. But the team always comes first and if any player isnt prepared to buy into that ethos then dont be surprised if the manager doesnt put you into the team.

Sturridge is very Fowler-esque in that he will always trust his ability to cleanly strike a ball from a variety of angles and distances, to the point that you sometimes wonder if their movement is compromised by their innate belief that all they need to do is make half a yard to unleash a shot.

He's a very peculiar striker these days, it's no wonder Klopp doesn't know quite what to do with him in this system.

Maybe put him up front with a partner alongside him and put balls into the box for him. That's what id be tempted to do

You'd build a team round a man that has been fit enough to start in over 15 league games once in 3 years?

who else is there to build a team around. On his day sturridge is world class, coutinho is world class once every 2 months the rest are average at best

What other team in world football with aspirations of winning anything would have such a bland insipid shithouse of a captain as Jordan Henderson

Well if the others are not good enough you get rid of him and them.

You build a team around characters who warrant it, like Suarez and Gerrard.  I'd be less inclined to build a team round someone who won't play because he has a hole in his sock.

Sturridge puts it in when he fancies it, he's in danger of becoming a luxury player for us.

Shame, because when he's on it he's England's top striker, by far.

I love Sturridge, but this isn't Brendan Rodgers leaving him out for shady, political reasons.

It's Klopp and frankly I trust that Sturridge isn't showing the right pressing movements in training or anything like his old pace.

He couldn't have pressed any less than Origi yesterday, played like he had a hangover.

Sturridge hasn't been anywhere near world class for the last two years.

He's not showing any of the qualities required for the role we need our central striker to play in the big games, hence why Firmino, whilst being an inferior goal scorer is getting the nod, and to a lesser extent Origi too.(Origi was shite yesterday when he came on but he was doubtful for the game anyway so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt)

I don't think there is anything about Klopp not rating Sturridge and I think he will stay for lots of reasons: he's a goal scorer, we aren't blessed with many strikers, Ings seems to have dropped off the face of the earth and Klopp has shown lots of patience with him on his rehab last year, if he'd have wanted rid we'd have sold by now.

I agree with Stigs premise of the thread to a certain extent, against the lesser teams Sturridge needs to play central just because you'd expect they will give chances away and you want the best finisher on the end of them. I'd put the Burnley loss more on Klopp for deciding to put Sturridge out wide, we may still have lost but you can bet that the Burnley left back thought his birthday had come when there was no Mane and we'd put Sturridge there.
