  1. I'm not on about the plethora of talent vacuum fucktards who smear themselves all over the tv and media. I mean genuinely funny or interesting famous people who've been massively overexposed by their greedy management, producers or just by their own voracity. I'll start with Romesh Ranganathan. I fucking loved this bloke 3 or 4 years ago. Self deprecating, funny and seemed a genuinely good bloke but fuck me he's omnipresent nowadays. And he's done some proper shite too. That Judge Romesh is way past fucking terrible. Have 2 years off and come back as you used to be when you were funny ffs.

  2. Well after being out of work since 1st May I had my first interview yesterday, had a phone call this morning to offer me a job! Made up as I was so nervous beforehand. It’s in local NHS offices, 5 hours a day, 4 days a week! Supposed to be getting all the formal details from HR in an email, haven’t had anything yet but hopefully not too much delay.

  3. Since the European ban English Clubs have won 5 European Cups (us and the Mancs twice and Chelsea once) and been runners up 7 times (us and the Mancs twice, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs once). There have also been 5 UEFA Cup wins (us and Chelsea twice and the Mancs once) with 5 runners up (us once, Arsenal twice, Middlebrough once and Fulham once). Before it was killed off Chelsea, Arsenal and the Mancs all won the Cup Winners Cup. Also the Super Cup has been won by us 3 times, the Mancs and Chelsea once, as well as both of them being runners up 3 times. So alongside clubs in England regularly going far in into the knockout stages in all of the competitions there have been 16 European trophies won by English clubs and several final appearances by English Clubs. But clearly the fact there was a ban that ended 30 years ago is the only possible reason Everton are shite, it couldn't possibly be that much like us they didn't adapt quickly enough to exploit the way English football changed with the financial side once the TV money went mental.

  7. Klopp never struck me as the kind of person who lets the grass grow under his feet. I'd be very surprised if he was still our manager in 5 years' time. He swoops in, weaves his magic, then he's on his way. He's Mary Kloppins.

  10. This was a great win. Potentially huge, as it's games like this where successful sides really separate themselves from the rest. Like many of the games in the early part of last season, it wasn’t especially pretty but it didn’t need to be. It’s all about results, especially when the circumstances are as difficult as this. Klopp described it as the “biggest potential banana skin ever”. Bit over the top maybe, but this was a huge test. The players travelled halfway across the world, came through extra time and a penalty shoot out and then had to go and play on the South Coast at 3pm on a Saturday. It’s never an easy place for us to go even under normal circumstances as they are always desperate to stick to us because we keep taking their best players. It was a fixture where we could easily have come unstuck, but the lads put on their big boy pants and dug in to get the win. In fairness it was so nearly much more than the scrappy grind it ended up as. After going 2-0 up we were flying and could have buried them completely had the third goal come. It didn’t, and then Adrian gifted them a late one to set up a tense finale. It was Leicester last year all over again. The similarities are uncanny. Mane and Firmino put us 2-0 up only for the the keeper to have a brain fart that left us hanging on. The main difference is that after we let in that daft goal at Leicester we kept them well under control and they never threatened to get another. The only reason Southampton didn’t complete a comeback was because Ings missed an absolute sitter. Cheers lad, appreciate it. Ins had scored the goal that got them back into it, but he didn’t really know much about it. Adrian just inexplicably kicked it right at him and it ricocheted into the net. Great pressure from Ings but that’s unforgivable that. What Alisson did last year was probably worse because it was so irresponsible and arrogant, but Adrian’s mistake was equally infuriating because he was just so unbelievably casual. What the fuck was he thinking? He Trent in acres but he ignored him and attempted a pass to Matip that had zero room for error. The only thing I will say in slight mitigation is that our defenders were pissing me off all day, continually passing the ball back to him even though everyone knew he had a bum ankle. He almost got caught in the first half as he took too long to get his clearance away. That should have been enough for the back four to think “yeah let’s keep it away from him”. But no, they kept passing it back to him and eventually he fucked up. Where was that pitch invading fan when we needed him? It didn’t cost us much (although any goal conceded pisses me off as our defensive record last year was something to be proud of and I’d like to beat it this year), but it took some of the shine off what was shaping up to be a really impressive win. The first half was shite but the goal just before the break lifted us and we came out after the break and did really well. The game completely turned on one moment of magic from a former Southampton player. Gotta love Sadio. It’s not enough that he’s been stealing his team-mates celebrations for years, he’s now started copying their goals. That goal had Coutinho written all over it. Absolutely brilliant. He’s got a new cerebration now that he sees as his own, even though Bobby has done it before and pulled him on instagram the other day saying “Sadii don’t copy me please!”. That was funny, but the reply from Sadio just made me want to hug him. “Huh? It’s different to yours Bobby! This is going to be my new celebration for this season. Don’t discourage me!”. “Don’t discourage me” hahaha bless his little cotton socks. I love Sadio Mané. He’s just such a genuinely lovely lad isn’t he? He’s also been the best of the front three for the last 12 months now. He’s no longer the ‘third man’ of that group. He’s top class and he’s been averaging almost a goal a game in 2019 now. He had another great game and was involved in everything we did. Bobby was really quiet in the first half and although Mo was looking good again (the goals haven’t come but he’s looked in brilliant form so far this season), it was Mané who stood out as the biggest threat. Southampton had been the better side until the goal and they had their chances. Adrian made some good saves to keep us on level terms but we were just predictably flat. Based on their midweek exertions I expected a performance like this to be honest. It’s hard, and any criticism of the team needs to be tempered because of it. You’re not going to get fluent football under these circumstances and all you can ask is for them to hang in there and just find a way to win. They did it, just as they did so many times last season. ‘Mentality Monsters’ is right. The second half display was terrific though. Southampton couldn’t get out of their own half as we just strangled the life out of them. We stepped it right up and created several great chances. We should have scored more than just the one more really. Sadio produced a great ball to send Mo clear but his shot hit the keeper’s foot. Then Mané got in down the left and put one on a plate for Bobby, but his shot rolled inches wide (would have been a ‘team goal’ of the season contender). No matter, soon after that Sadio robbed a defender and fed Bobby again, and this time he finished it superbly. We were flying in that second half. Robbo went close but was denied by the keeper (another one that would have had ‘team goal of the season’ written all over it) and Matip flicked a Milner shot just wide. It was all very comfortable until Adrian dropped that bollock. Was it just me who was pissed off that he didn’t reference it in his post match tweet. Instead of the usual bollocks about ‘great team win. big three points’ etc t would have been nice for him to acknowledge what he did. I don’t think I’m being too harsh here, as it’s not like I expect an apology from him, but at least reference it even if you make a joke of it. The good thing is that just like Alisson’s blunder last year it didn’t cost us any points. Alisson was full of contrition afterwards though and promised to never do anything like that again, and so far he hasn’t. Hopefully Adrian learns his lesson too. This is the thing with keepers who are good with their feet. They think they’re better than they are. Say what you like about the Mig, but he’d never get caught like that because he would never be that casual about his own ability that he’d take a risk like that. I don’t buy into the theory that Alisson’s absence is the reason we look more vulnerable though. It’s hardly Adrian’s fault that he’s having so many shots to save. It’s not like he’s playing in midfield or defence. That’s where the problem lies currently. I don’t pay too much attention to all the XG stuff, but the nerds who do seem concerned about what’s happening right now. Apparently this was our worst XG defensive performance since Lovren’s nightmare against Spurs at Wembley. Chelsea the other night was even worse. Even if you don’t put any stock in such stats it’s still fairly obvious that we’re not right defensively at the moment. It started in pre-season and it’s carried on into the real games. I’m not concerned about the long term as I’m confident we’ll get it right, but there has to be a little worry about the short term purely because there is so little margin for error if we want to win the title. Every game matters and if we defend like this against Arsenal next week it could be costly, as the one thing they can do is attack. At least we have a full week on the training ground to iron out a few of these issues. Need to make the most of those while we can, because once the CL kicks in we won’t have that luxury. Overall though I’m fucking made up with the lads. A 100% start despite also having to play ‘Cup’ games against City and Chelsea. They know how to win and they’ve got massive balls. Star man is Sadio. By a mile. Ox was probably the pick of the rest though and it was good to see him running around, enjoying himself in midfield rather than being a passenger on the wing. I’d keep him in the side for the time being, especially for home games, as he gives us that bit of extra drive. Team: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Wijnaldum, Milner (Fabinho), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Henderson); Salah (Origi), Firmino, Mané:

  15. I hate the way other fans make out that Heysel was a one off incident that led to the ban. Virtually every other team and the England national team had been causing murder everywhere in Europe for a decade. Loads of shite cockney clubs used to fight amongst themselves every week. The mancs had to play domestic and European games away from OT because their fans were that bad. Every cunt used to fight non stop and attack away fans as well as away fans using a game of footy to go on the rampage in a different town. Trains, buses and town centres were getting wrecked every week. All our fans got stabbed and battered the year before by Roma fans yet nothing happened to them. Our fans didn't react or deliberately start fights there. The year after Liverpool get everyone banned and it's all solely down to the behaviour of some of our fans. Yes. Liverpool should fully accept that charging at the Juventus fans was bad but we aren't "murderers". Some of our fans rightly went to prison too. If all English clubs were such Angels why didn't Liverpool just get banned?. I don't think any of us would have gone on about it if it had just been us. Evertonians seem to have become experts on the subject of Heysel and bring it up at almost every opportunity. When you say there were more factors in play than just a load of Liverpool fans reacting to bricks being thrown at them they accuse you of denying any responsibility and say "it's never you're fault".

  16. I don't buy the 'there are too many teams in the league argument', there have been at least 92 clubs across the top 4 divisions for over 50 years and it's only become a real issue since the Sly Sports deal in the early 90's. Yeah a few fell by the wayside, but it was rare! I've no love for Bolton or Bury, but what's happening to those clubs, especially Bury, is an absolute fucking disgrace! 134 years and they could be gone in 2 days, 125 years as a league club, gone because some greedy cunt who bought it for a quid wants to squeeze a few bob more out of a sale. If they go under I hope they lynch the cunt from their main stand. I wish them well, I hope they're saved!

A cup of the finest US Yorkshire tea cost an extra £2.25. The sausages and bacon were alright and worthy of a point each. Unfortunately they were also the only thing on the plate that was hot. The other ingredients weren’t the worst in the world but they get no points because they were all either lukewarm or stone cold. And that’s the bottom line. 2/10.

  34. This job you've invented for me; what is it, exactly? Do I work for the EU? Where am I based; in the UK or abroad? Does it pay well? Do I get to use my wide range of language skills? Or do I work for a private company, hired by the EU to do some work they've outsourced? Maybe I fix photocopiers in Strasbourg. That could be exciting. Or do I work for some UK public sector organisation, doing work that's wholly funded by the EU? (Actually, you'd better swerve that line of thinking: it leads to the ERDF investing in Merseyside at a time when the UK Government was horny for "managed decline" and that doesn't help your side of the debate about what the EU has done for the rest of us.) I can't even be arsed asking why you've dreamt up this fantasy life for me. I'm just curious about the details of what it actually is.

  35. The question isn't "who's the best", it's "who's the most important". I'm not saying goals are easy to come by, but there are way more players in world football that could replicate what Salah and Mané do to a degree than players who can do what Firmino does in Klopp's system. Hence, by definition, it's easy to argue that Firmino is the most important even if he's objectively less productive than Salah and Mané.

  36. Differed on three of the above. Although I suspect my use of ‘strongly’ on some of the top ones we agreed were something to do with me being further left. The places we differed: I agreed (not strongly) with 2-4, as I think it is *fundamentally* a good idea, although it’s not a strict rule to which we must abide. 2-6, I agreed that it shouldn’t. For me, that’s a general view that the Earth, as part of the wider reality of the universe (sorry... I know), should be ‘owned’ by anybody. It’s not like I’d change anything if I was a PM though. I agreed with 2-8 on Protectionism being ‘sometimes’ necessary, because, well, sometimes it is. Some protectionist measures ‘sometimes’ are needed. But if that is taken as ‘in favour of all aspects of protectionism at all times’ then I’m obviously not.

  38. Hello everyone. Most will know me. I am a visitor to quite a few LFC sites and have been the custodian of the Player of the Season game for over 15 years now. The game has spanned many different sites in its time; currently the voters come from YNWA, Est1892, 6CM, Scouser Tommy, TLW, and IrishKop. I am hoping that adding voters from other sites will give a more accurate picture of our feelings as Liverpool supporters. I hope that you will all play a part in this 16th year to enable us to get a picture of our players' performances and to crown a worthy winner come May 2020. Previous winners: 2005 Jamie Carragher 2006 Steven Gerrard 2007 Dirk Kuyt 2008 Javier Mascherano 2009 Xabi Alonso 2010 Javier Mascherano 2011 Steven Gerrard 2012 Luis Suarez 2013 Luis Suarez 2014 Luis Suarez 2015 Philippe Coutinho 2016 Lucas Leiva 2017 Philippe Coutinho 2018 Mohamed Salah 2019 Virgil van Dijk This season, the format will be as follows: Instead of voting for a single player as your Man of the match, you vote for your top 3. This enables a "steady Eddie" like Clyne or Hendo to get his mentions and gain some points. Points are the same as last year; the top player gets 5 points, the second player gets 3 and the third player gets a single point. This year, like last, we have got a survey site to keep the tally easier for me. PLEASE USE THE SURVEY SITE LINK AS I DO NOT USE THE VOTES ON THE THREADS. I will award a bonus half point if our Goalkeeper keeps a clean sheet. All competitive games are counted, CC, FA, Europa/Champions League and, of course, Premier League matches. This year the Community Shield and Super Cup will also count. I shall post current league tables so that we can follow the players' performances throughout the season. If a moderator could ensure a "sticky" when I post a Man of the Match thread, I would be grateful; also it would be nice if I could have a sticky league table thread for the game throughout the season. Thanks for your support in this. Getting 6 or more different Liverpool sites to vote throughout a whole season gives a good indication of the fans' feelings on players. I look forward to collecting and calculating the results throughout the season. YNWA. Stu.

REMEMBER: Don't vote on the threads as I only count votes through the link. Our new Champion of Champions is: VIRGIL VAN DIJK!!! Discussion points: 1. Virgil won 8 MOM awards this season which is impressive, but just as impressive is that he was pushed the whole season by Alisson and Sadio with 7 each. The fact we have had a group of players on top of their game suggests that Klopp recognises the need to improve on last year's Salah solo show. . 2. Jordan Henderson had 5 MOM awards. I am so happy for him lifting the cup as he has been not universally liked in the same way as Lucas Leiva. He is a great asset to have and an Englishman with a large heart in midfield. Love his attitude. . 3. Andy Robertson was Mr. Consistent with 15 places in the top 3 this season. His battle with Trent was one of the great reasons we did so well. . 4. Talking of TAA, his was a disappointing 13th place in the table with only 1 MOM performance. I suppose when he plays well, we score lots of goals and the attacking players get the votes too. . 5. Divock Origi was so important this season. We know about his wins against Everton and Newcastle that gained us 4 points in the league, but he also did so well in Europe. One to watch although I suspect he will always remain in the shadows of the front 3. . 6. The most disappointing thing about our front 3 was Bobby Firmino's hit and miss season. The guy did become blind at one point and suffered different injury problems but he didn't shine as much as his teeth did. . 7. For me, the new recruits were slow to adapt, and Klopp recognised this straight away and kept their appearances down to a minimum. Keita showed first and impressed in pockets and it took months before we got to see Fabinho Tavares. This guy is so good. He reminds me of a young Patrick Vieira and Steven Gerrard rolled into one. Considering he is in his first season of PL football, it was a mighty impressive season. Well done to him...possibly our 2020 player of the season? Over to you...what are your thoughts on such a fantastic season? It should have been the double (97 points and not win the league?! Rubbish). Let's make it a league victory next year REDS. YNWA.
