  3. You're wrong about Corbyn being a strong leader: just ask all the MPs who (literally) queued up to scream into his face in an attempt to "break the man" and force him to resign... but that's for another thread. You're also very wrong about Oasis. They are the spawniest band in the history of music. With such limited talent, you wouldn't begrudge them a top 40 single or two and a career of playing pubs, where people ignore most of the songs and then go "ooh, I used to like this one" when they play the singles. Instead, thanks to production, marketing and the tenor of their times ("their times" being a couple of years in the mid 90s) they are hailed as somehow significant and worthwhile. Throw a boomerang in an open-plan office of middle-aged people and you'll hit at least 2 or 3 who have been in better bands, but had to get real jobs to pay the bills.

  9. You only had to see him on Goggle box and know the kind of circles he moves in. He's one of tbose horrendous creatures, similar to Steve McManaman, someone from the North who thinks they're smarter than their peers because they talk fast and can regurgitate some shit or spout pound bin philosophy. Tom Ross's genius description of Susan Boyle was 'she's not good, she's just not as shit as you expect her to be based on how she looks.' Same with Gallagher, he's not clever, he's just not as thick as you expect him to be based on how he looks.

  10. If we can't have another Moyes (like Martinez or Howe) then I think what I want is for them to name Carrick temporary manager and then publicly pursue Pochettino. You know, have Ryan Giggs giving quotes about how Poch is "a great manager who would fit in at United" or quotes from "senior United figures" about how they're looking at him really hard. Totally unsettle the whole Tottenham cult, only for Levy to slam the door shut on them around June. Then at the end of the summer after arguing about it and ruining both teams' transfer plans completely they end up having to go with ... Brendan Rodgers.

  13. Hearing senior figures at the club are concerned by recent results - particularly the defeats. More as I get it.

  14. And that's where you're wrong. Don't lance this boil! Let it grow, let it fester, let it consume. Liverpool have been rocky this past week or so - and this may even continue tomorrow. But truth be told, even if we lose tomorrow, it's a blip. And that's because we have a solid foundation in place under Klopp. We have an identity, a culture. Under the diminutive Portuguese they have the opposite. Days like today are a blip-in-reverse. I was there in the 90s when Liverpool came back from 0-3 down to draw against a far-superior man utd side. All it actually was was a reverse-blip. We got a whiff of nostalgia - a hark back to the days of glory when we were great and could come back from the dead because we were brilliant. That's what the mancs got today. But like us back then, it was from a base of nothing. Foundations of sand. Keep him on, let them get behind him. He will rip the nearly-dead heart out of them if it means trying to salvage something of himself. That's what we, as Liverpool supporters, want. Of course our priority is ourselves - get our own house in order. But the truth is, we very nearly have. City are out in front of us, but they're in our sights. Under this manager, man utd is one less thing to worry about.

  16. Don't wanna piss on chips but the chaos this has all caused has taken the absolute piss. Schools closed (er what?) train stations closed. Queues a quarter of a mile long to get into lime street and central. Fucking crazy. No free events are pleasant any more. That goes for things like bommy night and tall ships and stuff too. Just overly busy and rammed with people, 75% of whom don't have any genuine interest in it but are just harvesting pictures and videos for Facebook likes. EVERYONE is going I MUST NOT be left out!

  26. Where are the legendary Kula Shaker these days? I liked Oasis, still don’t mind blur, and a few of the others. But the real genre breaking music then was in clubs as The Dust Brothers became Chemical, Dave Clarke twisted techno tornadoes, the Prodigy smacked their beats up and Leftfiel, Orbital et al took us on a mad trance dance through the festivals.

  27. I’m not into negging, but this post is shite. Don’t look to pop stars for politics, most of them are more concerned with shielding their (often well earned) stash, working class principles are costly. Tony Blair was a prick, he did a lot of good stuff, along with a fair amount of nefarious stuff, personality politics is bullshit, the policies that Corbyn and McDonnell are bringing forward are brave, considered, and look to benefit those who need it most, rather than blowing smile up the arse of those whose need is least.

  28. Seriously, the kid should retire. His head is in bits, he's a nervous wreck, for the good of his mental health he needs to jack it all in before he locks his door, draws his curtains and starts finger painting his gaff in his own poo.

  31. Really intriguing fight this. Head says Khabib but I don't think you can ever write McGregor off (Well apart from the boxing sideshow), he's great at mind games and may have got into Khabibs head, added to the fact he's a fantastic striker that is capable of landing a bomb at any point. I still fancy Khabib to win on points but you never know.

  39. Brilliant post Section. In the 80’s I heard all this ‘biggest club in the world’ bollocks year after year. Glamour club bullshit. Spot on about style of play too - early 90’s it was all about keeping it tight and nicking one or two, often off the fod of Bruce or Pallister. They were the bland foil to Keegan’s cavaliers - all pragmatism over style, and that’s fine as it wins leagues, but pretending that they were the Harlem fucking globetrotters is bullshit. Going back to Ferguson’s early years it was Whiteside, Hughes and (a bit later) Ince just kicking lumps out of decent teams. What I will give them is that they built their wealth on success, not vice-versa, which elevates them over the Chelseas of this world, but as you say they prepared the ground for the likes of Abramovich with Michael Knighton’s keepie-ups, McManus and Magnier and stock market flotation. Mourinho is the portrait in the attic for a club that sold its soul years ago - they love a Stone Roses lyric over there, and it’s fair to say he was already in them - the price for being adored.
