Your party is the one in power mate, the onus is on you.

Hold on a minute. You're the one telling all and sundry that that Lib Dems are "propp[ing] up the most ruthless, nasty, austere Government in living memory".

If you're making that claim, you must be basing it on something tangible, rather than repeating it like a mantra you've been spoonfed, right?

You must have some idea of the "ruthless, nasty, austere" things that this government are doing which are so much worse than any government since WWII, right?

SD I'm 50 years of age, I've raised three kids and as a consequence nobody spoon feeds me anything. My standard of living has dropped MASSIVELY since your Government took office, I' m 5 thousand pounds a year lighter since your Government took office, I've personally experienced a worse NHS service and I have witnessed other public services slaughtered, Is there actually any police stations open any more? That's just MY personal experience, I 've heard numerous other horror stories from friends. Now do you want to tell my why your party has countersigned all of this?

A bit of election fun. Which of the three phrases will SD use once the results are in....

"Disappointed with the result but the party remains resolute and this was expected at this point in an electoral cycle."

"A good result considering the circumstances."

"Very encouraging result and is much better than almost everyone predicted."

Easy jibe to throw and yes they have sold out on some issues but hands up if you think anyone would have a ten grand tax free personal allowance if eithe rLabour or Conservatives had won the the last election.

Done and dusted, Green in the Euros, spoiled paper in the locals as there was no green candidate!

Greens (and UKIP) shouldn't even be political parties. Both are pressure groups and should be spending their time and money lobbying the political parties - not being one. Unfortunately the political systems we have gives them no other choice other than to become a party to gain that political voice/influence. Neither will ever gain any real political influence (thankfully and sadly at the same time) but it is the only way to get the political establishment to listen to their respective messages.

Labour were different before then mate. Unfortunately, with the way socialism is seemingly viewed in this country as short-hand for communism, reds under the bed, unions crippling the country, etc, it meant they couldn't get elected.

Was after Blair pushed through their dropping of Clause IV in '94 they got voted in, leading to Thatcher's later memorable claim when asked what she saw as her greatest ever achievement, that it was Blair and New Labour.

Nah not for me. How did we get elected in 97, 2001 and 2005 if this is true?

I believe that there are a lot more fair minded people in this country (of every party persuasion) than people recognise. But there is a balance to be made between giving a little to be fair and giving a lot to be fair. That is were the seesaw starts to move in one direction or the other.

Your party propped up the most ruthless, nasty, austere Government in living memory mate, at some point they're going to have to answer for it.

I think you may have had one of these whichever way you voted in 2010. Oh, and just to upset you a bit more I think the Tories may have pulled it off and will win the next election.

Indeed.  In fact, your wellbeing is based on the wellbeing of others.  Rich people are increasingly finding themselves having to live isolated, unhappy lives behind big walls, because the people on the outside are getting desperate.  Poe's The Masque of the Red Death is a good analogy of how it's impossible for anyone to completely quarantine themselves from other people's hardship - even if they do, temporarily, imagine that they live in the My Lovely Horse sequence from Father Ted.

wtf

seriously?

You need to provide a definition of rich.

And if it isn't something that reflects only 0.00001% (who have always had a similar problem) of the population explain how you would identify a "rich" person if they should take their lives in their hands and try to walk down Church Street in town.

I'm not sure they will, and given that their opponent is easily the worst political party leader I have ever seen that's no mean feet.

Oh and my daughter now has humongous student debt hanging around her neck, y'know that student debt that your Party swore not to incur, I would have helped her with that but unfortunately your Government has castrated my pension.

A student debt she chose to accept.

A student debt that hopefully earned her a degree that enables her to apply for those jobs that have "must have a degree" as one of the essential criteria. A job that half of her contemparies cannot apply for.

A student debt that she doesn't need to repay until she earns £24,000 pa (approx).

And if your pension is fucked you want to ask Gordon Brown about that if you're not a civil servant.

Looking at the results tonight I think they already have. If they make it through the next twelve months without any serious own goals I reckon they are home and hosed.

Looks to me like you're trying to convince yourself more than anyone else. And looking at those Tory losses I can see why.

Yeah maybe.

Like Rotherham where Labour lost 8 seats to UKIP and the Tories lost 2 seats to UKIP.

I don't need to, nor am I trying to, convince myself of anything I'm just looking at how people have actually voted.

If you want to divorce yourself from reality feel free.

I work in the public sector. I too have seen my take home pay reduced by approx £5k per year, I've seen lots of people I've worked with loose their jobs in restructures designed to save money and my job is precariously balanced. I hate the Tories because they are doing this, however if labour got in they would keep doing the same. Why because the bankers fucked us up. It doesn't matter whose in power if you have £100 budget but your monthly outgoings are £400 you have to cut back and unfortunately public services are the easiest of targets.

You know what's funny SD, that , as you say, the Lib Dems only really have 15% of the say in this government and yet  almost 100% of your output on the coalition is in defence of it.

You might want to ponder on that.

Banal hyperbolic nonsense like this being repeated so often that it's accepted as some kind of trusim, despite being a million miles from the truth.

Ask the people of Iraq who was nastier: Blair or Cameron? Ask the victims of extraordinary rendition.

You're right we're paying for coalition, as they say, no good deed goes unpunished.

Its not the people of Iraq who vote in British elections, unless you believe UKIP.

That nasty Blair oversaw one of the healthiest British economies in years, raised standards in Schools and Hospitals, allowed thousands of kids go to University who wouldnt have ordinarily gone,my kids included.

So even though I am certainly not a fan of Blair at all he isnt viewed as nasty as the current crowd who your own party are propping up.

I am a couple of years younger than King Emlyn but I have seen the things he has understand his point of view in that your Government is indeed the nastiest since Thatcher and your party are paying the price for helping it. Even if it is disproportionate with regards to blame.

As it stands now (with 1,697 seats declared), here's what the "UKIP earthquake" looks like.

Council Seats

Labour              724     42.7%

Cuntservative   635      37.4%

LibDem             202      11.9%

UKIP                   90         5.3%

Ind                       33        1.9%

Green                    6        0.4%

Residents              6        0.4%

Liberal                   1        0.1%

That's 5.3% of council seats won on a pitiful turnout of 36% (the kind of thing that traditionally favours extremist and "protest" votes.)  It's fuck all in real life, but the three major parties will probably still think it gives them cause to lurch to the right.

True that. The media deals in easy narrative. There's very little genuine analysis or insight now, just headlines, 'UKIP UKIP UKIP'.

It's the same as the way all terror analysis comes down to 'the White Widow' and the economy comes down to 'Housing Bubble'.

Said it before and I'll say it again, the media is the principal problem here, more so than politics. When you've got politicians dancing to the media's tune then that's when you've got to really worry.
