Strange Hobbies

I've put pics up before but really enjoying my evenings off painting miniatures lately. Still trying to improve but find it really relaxing and good for my mental health to switch off. As I stay on night mode all the time it's a great hobby. Music on the headphones, glass of whisky and get the paints out.

Recent work

The mythology stuff is from a card board game, the rest the start of large tabletop Wargames armies. Getting my Napoleonic French and Republican Romans finished first.

Fair play. I'm quite good at painting and spraying larger stuff but Michael J Fox would do a better job than me at something like that.

Do you sell them? Probably a decent market on eBay for that type of thing.

The Zeus one is your best work, very good.

No

I play the games. To make money painting you need to be a far better painter than me.

These are the sort of levels you need to be at to make it worthwhile selling

They're boss Lee, not a strange hobby at all. Saw a job going writing for Games Workshop recently, what a gig if you're into that stuff.

I nearly worked part time there years back when a few of my mates did but its all changed there these days. One man stores they took away the major discounts of buying models by weight.

No way I could work with actual public and people these days without getting sacked for a killing spree.

It's a expensive hobby but I really enjoy it and find this side of it very relaxing. Also finding a hobby you can see improvements in is good. I was spending far to long sitting in front of a screen playing xbox.

They're excellent. How long does finishing one normally take you?

Depends on the models.

Zeus was surprising quick between 2-3 hours. Mostly because I'm using a new type of Paint called contrast. They are very thin and have a high pigment so fill the gaps and help shading so take less time. At the moment I'm working on 12 French Imperial Guard Lancers(below) who are taking ages(must be around 8 hrs so far and I've not touched the riders) as it's got to be done traditionally mostly and you can see the difference as I try and do the tiny details.

The larger models are somewhat easier on the eyes and time.

Hephaestus(the guy in black toga carrying the flaming ball) took around 2 half hours last night not including the priming, which is quick with a can but needs to properly dry so I normally take a few out in the morning after work prime them, put them in the shed and then paint when I'm off.

Do they still make those out of lead?

On an unrelated note, had any muscle pains, headaches, or memory problems lately?

Haha

No lead was swapped out a while back. All Metals while still used are being phased out by the big manufacturers now as plastic and resin can be done in such detail these days.

Boss that Lee. I did a piece for an American history mag last year comparing the Heer to the Waffen SS. The gear the latter used was boss, especially the camo smocks the army used to take the piss out of but were years ahead of their time.

I'll be honest, I am much more interested in your drinking hobby. What rum have you got, any recommendations?

I like Rum but I don't go overboard. At the moment I only have one bottle of Kraken.

My go to everyday bottles to have in are Havana Club, all three Dark,White and Gold. Good stuff for the price. If you want something a little different try Plantations Pineapple stiggins. Most Plantation rum is good,Mount Gary another.

Didn't like the Kirk and Sweeney I had.

I think it's Lidl that do a very good jarg Kraken for fuck all.

Haven't had Havana club for years, not sure why, just don't see it in supermarkets much any more.

Sainsbury is the only one that carries it from the big supermarket.

Just got into drawing. Really relaxing. I've got a hell of a lot to learn and improve but here's a few early efforts.

Was going to make a PhillyHamann joke but they're actually really good. Fair play mate. I have no talent whatsoever for stuff like this.
