Today should have been...

a party, a celebration as we sent the lads off to Athens in style, in anticipation, holpeful of spurring them on to another European Cup. There should have been smiling faces, hopeful hearts and booming voices; not only from those excited about the trip to Athens, but from those wanting to let the players know that we're all behind them - at home or abroad.

It should have been the perfect opportunty to celebrate the career and legend of one of our favourite sons, but even though we got the chance to say goodbye this time, minds seemed elsewhere. It wasn't the occasion it should have been.

Instead today will be remembered as the day it became evident that Liverpool Football Club and it's fans were now separate entities. Instead of celebration, there was contempt. Instead of anticipation there was anger. Hope, hopelessness.

On perhaps one of the darkest days of the failed Houllier regime, Liverpool were beaten at home by Manchester City on the final game of the season. Even then, the lap of honour was applauded with more gusto, without the promise of a second European Cup Final in 10 days.

Rick Parry has ruined this final. Every ounce of excitement felt following Dirk's penalty against Chelsea has been sapped from so many hearts. My own included. You sense today, that within that stadium, there were broken hearts. The penny has dropped, after years of being treated like shit, for many of us. The chant of "We shall not be moved" was sung with such lethargy that it wouldn't take much to blow us clean out of the way. And it told on the players too. They deserved a spirited send off, for making the dreams come true that Rick Parry has since shattered.

When you add the rain into the equation, what a miserable, miserable day. Go to Hell, Rick.

Something deffo didn't seem right today. Fans where obviously pissed off but players looked pissed off to me aswell.

Not the performance so much I can understand players not throwing themselves in for fear of injury. They just all seemed to have their heads down.

Altogether a sad send off for Robbie. I fucking love him was devastated was almost in tears then.

How many people do you think have been unjustly denied a ticket? Please show your working-out.

I think the main problem has been how the tickets have been allocated, and the numbers just don't add up. It's especially damning when you have travel agencies offering tickets in the Liverpool end, and not just 3 or 4, but a lot lot more. My mate said that he wouldn't be surprised if there were a few going to employees at the Everyman, since Parry was on the VIP list there when he worked there.

And yeah, look at the other threads.

Haha, what a fucking drama queen.

What have we done to deserve these self loathing, sentimental tossers?

If that's how you really feel, do us a favour and just don't go anymore. I know someone who'll have your seat.

We need to make sure that Tom and George get the message that what's happened isn't acceptable. Even if behind the scenes they were part of it all.

We want honesty, it's what we expect.

Rick needs to go back to the Premier League where he can help let clubs off for "gentlemen's agreements" and illegal transfers.

Shankly once ripped into a former secretary at Anfield who was giving out FA Cup Final tickets, telling him that they should be given to the people who pay at the turnstile not his mates at the golf club. Shanks would be turning in his grave if he knew what was going on now.

How many tickets would be acceptable to give to sponsors? Dont say none, because that is not being realistic

I dont know, and obviously a lot of tickets went that way. Probably due to obligations made when those sponsors signed the contracts. At least I hope the club "had" to give them tickets, that it was not just a matter of personal scratching of backs.

What I dont get is this: Is it so hard to get someone to sponsor Liverpool Football Club that you need a guarranteed amount of tickets to cup finals in order to attract someone? Ok, some tickets during the season and maybe a few to cupfinals, but it must be possible to get sponsors with no guarantee of cupfinal tickets?

If this situation is going to be avoided in the future thats what the fans must demand: Less ticket obligations in sponsor contracts from now on. Wait till next final and its too late.

Awesome post, dude.

That Mosiac was a joke and well done to the lads in the middle of the 'D' on the kop part that didn't raise their part.

But they don't support us. And therein lies the very big problem. As in any walk of life, people will only take so much.
