The Liverpool penalty takers who have taken more than 5 in the "modern" era. Neal's record is surprisingly average. The mid-80s to mid 90's was unbelievably successful.

Murphy 8/8 = 100%
Walters 6/6 = 100%
Aldridge 17/18 = 94.4%
Molby 42/45 = 93.3%
Milner 19/21= 90%
Barnes 11/13 =85%
Gerrard 47/57 = 82%
Fowler 20/25 = 80%
Salah 20/26 = 77%
Liddel 34/45 = 76%
Neal 38/51 = 74%
Smith 22/32 = 69%

It’s mad that Phil Neal kept taking the pens when he wasn’t that good at them, while we had the greatest striker in the history of the club on the pitch.

How many goals would Rush have got to if he had more than 4 penalties?

Rush took 5 for us and missed two of them. It seems to be a specialist skill

Dom has scored 15 & missed one so far, so good record.

Watched a vid which showed ten of his penalties & he went to the keepers right every single time. Not sure if that is what his does for every penalty or not.

I watched that. The keepers knew where he was going on most and dived the right way but couldn't get near them.

i would like to see gerrard's stats after pepe reina told him where to put them (and minus the get hodgson sacked one). he wasn't good early on, but once reina showed him the spot in the corners that were impossible to save, he was exceptional.

Just looked at it again and you're probably right - not that close to the corner. Good power on it though.

Mo would throw a massive strop if he was taken off penalties.

So, Szoboszlai.

Different sized font giveaway - looks like I've found me a Szoboszlai cut-and-paster.

Bet you've Kvaratskhelia saved in the same file for similar purposes.

Much more impressive was his pass to set Dumfries free to earn the penalty.

Beauty.

I see he scored a good goal and got a good assist v Greece on Thursday. My Dad said he watched the game and text me how well Gakpo was playing.

Such a quality footballer. He often looks better coming from deep, though, which will be tricky as we now have two proper, well-rounded 8's who can do similar. Will be interesting to see how we use him.

Definitely good to have options now. For the whole time Klopp was here, unless he was injured, more or less, Firmino was #9.

Having Gakpo, Nunez & Jota, all who can play through the middle and out wide (assume Diaz & Mo stay wide), will certainly be beneficial going forwards.

They’ll all get plenty of minutes this season.

Interesting. I'd wonder if the uptick in conversion rate has something to do with the evolution of the ball itself. The old leather balls got heavy with moisture, but mid eighties they started using more modern designs that'd stay light.

Read an article about Mexico '86 being the first World Cup to use a modern ball, and it being no coincidence that Maradona shone with it.

Don't really care who takes pens because on the one hand, they're a lot of the time a stat padding thing for the best goal scorer on the team, and on the other, we can't see who is best at them in training. It's one of those things for me like the captaincy that isn't really worth talking about.
