This whole thing is like watching rich kids who have absolutely no idea how to fight getting into a scrap and bystanders just walking past and laughing at them. I have long since lost interest in the whole sport these days.

It's sad because I liked knocking a ball about on council courses when I was a kid (not that i was any bloody good) and loved watching the majors on TV and the Ryder Cup, but there's nothing to enjoy about it now.

 

There won't be any moments like Rocca's putt in 1995 or Justin Rose at Birkdale in 1998 that will have the meaning like they used too, and that's down to money.

I had a putter fitting at Ping's lab in Loughborough a couple of weeks ago as I was doing a feature on it for Golf Monthly. It was boss, proper state of the art shit with all sorts of analysis and data. It turns out that my putting stroke is pretty good and they've fitted me into a putter that's been adjusted to suit my stroke.

 

So at least I know the reason I'm shit at putting isn't down to my technique or having the wrong putter. It's down to not being able to read greens and years of telling myself I'm shit at putting which has destroyed my confidence. Hopefully now that I know I'm technically pretty sound I'll relax a bit and stop shitting my pants over every three footer.

 

You get to personalise the putter too so I'll post a photo when I get it. It's got 'The Liverpool Way' on the sole, as well as the name 'El Pistolero'. I thought about 'Darwin' but my short putts are already like his tap ins so I don't need that.
