I was listening to something on the radio last week about the advances in camera technology since the last series that have allowed them to film in ways not available to the before. The patience of the filmakers is just incredible

I bet they go through hours of boredom just to get the few amazing shots they hope for. Hats off to them.

They only started doing it once they were rumbled for showing shots from a zoo instead of in the wild didn't they? 

 

They've been showing these 'making of' segments for about 10-15 years now I think. All the big series like Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Life have these 10-minute segments at the end of each episode.

Indeed, I remember watching one which involved Niagara falls, the danger they put themselves in takes some balls.
