New HBO Series: Game of Thrones

Read the first book a few weeks ago on the strength of the TV show as HBO usually don't produce too many bad shows. Don't usually read fantasy stuff but really enjoyed it. Seemed to be a perfect match for HBO as the story requires a scope and therefore budget and has adult content that just couldn't be matched on other networks.

First time I'm annoyed not to have Sky. Sky Atlantic showing this the night after States means no one I know will download this. So this will be first show that I have to download just to see it. Just watched the first episode. Suitably impressed that this can live up to the book. Production, cast and script all up to usual high standards from HBO.

Can't really compare this with the likes of Spartacus:Blood and Sand or Spartacus:Gods of the Arena. I enjoyed both shows for what they were but felt Spartacus cynically tried to attract viewers with the promise of sex and violence. Here it just feels they are trying to do a faithfull adaptation of the book. Many seemed disappointed with how The Walking Dead strayed from the comics but I think this will stick to the story as told in the original book.

Bought 2nd book A Clash of Kings which will get read straight after the 10 episodes of Game of Thrones. Really hope that this finds an audience and we get all of the books adapted. Would hate to see this end up like Carnivale or Deadwood where the full story was left unfinished or Rome where things got rushed to finish in 2 series

I enjoyed, but was a little underwhelmed by the first episode. I think I got my hopes up too much. I love the books, and have been following updates on this ever since GRR Martin announced it on his site. Those who are not sold on the show by the pilot should try sticking with it until episode 5. Every review I've read on this says the first 4 are a bit scattered, but episodes 5 and 6 just blew them (the critics) away. HBO released the first 6 episodes to critics.

As for the first episode...I like the cast, the cinematography was amazing, the violence was appropriate considering the source material, but the tits were a little out of place. That said, the tits were wonderful, and 2 sets in particular in the scene with Tyrion were top quality funbags.

I would have liked this to have been gritter, the first book is less fantasy and more medievel war in my opinion, and the cinematography, while stunning, doesn't quite feel right in the dialog heavy scenes. I love it when you have scenes with the vast landscapes and such, but scenes set in Winterfell seem too pretty.

Not big issues, and certainly not something that will keep me from watching the show, but things that I wish were a little different.

Well, that was a lot of tits, even for HBO.

A sign that 90 minutes was stretching the treatment maybe. Still the HBO system is give it 4/5 episodes to let the exposition die down.

Wasn't keen on the way they kicked things off though. I get the feeling that isn't really going to play for a while. Also the way they set up the political side around the throne was really poorly written. All expositional dialogue and they haven't even shown the Larrister family together to show the dynamic (only picked up on who's who by using a wiki as well... which isn't a great sign). Hopefully they get their shit together because it could be pretty good.

Watched the first episode, couldn't really get into it. What is it with medieval dramas and straight faced, emotionless dialogue? Also couldn't really get to grips with any of the characters. Will give the second episode a go tonight, will see if I can get into it a bit more.

To be honest I pity anyone trying to follow whats going on in the series without having read the books, they miss out on so much. and trying to keep up with all the different characters.

I don't like the way I already like Jamie Lannister, I didn't get to like him until A Storm of Swords but oh well, they have done better then I could of hoped for really.

Can't wait for the next episode.

How are they going to name the next season?

A Game of Thrones : A Clash of Kings?

Gotta agree. They've essentially sacrificed everything but the plot. The characters are caricatures and character development is non-existent. It's a corn hull of an adaptation that's for sure. I'll give it one more episode.

Are there any sites where somebody could download it from? Obviously i wouldn't do that seeing as it's illegal and all that but if some evildoer did want to do it where would they go?

If you want to get it from a private torrent site you can signup at this link. I looked and they got episode 1 & 2 in HD to download on there right now. But you have to download torrent software and try to keep your ratio up if you don't want to get banned.
