Favourite and least favourite cities?

3 grand! Fuck me. They must have been staying in a penthouse at the Bellagio.

You can get a proper good deal if you shop about. We stayed at the Luxor - which is only a 3*. But it would be a 4* anywhere else, absolutely amazing place. Cost me and my mate less than £20 a night to stay there

They were at that place, I think. But it was the drugs/ drinks/ whoring costs that I knew would cripple me. And the flights weren't cheap either.

Is Phuket a city?

If it is then that is without doubt my winner of worst city.

horrible place, that.

I'll second that. Fucking grim place. Home to one of the creepiest hostels i have ever stayed in too.

There's plenty of places in Phuket that would put the willies up you, best to avoid them.

Phuket is the gateway to the islands on the west coast mate.

I urge you to stop by Phuket on route to these immense places of paradise.

As Tom correctly points out - it is dirty and shite, but take it in and appreciate what you are about to encounter. The islands south of Phuket are complete bliss, the best on earth imo.

To fully appreciate the sweet, you sometimes have to taste the sour.

Yeah it's en route to the places I'm hitting, maybe won't spend as long there as had intended.

yeah, we stopped off in Phuket en route to Phi Phi, and stupidly we'd booked for 3 days.

It was fucking horrible.

You can't walk past any shop - and i mean ANY shop, even a fucking offy or a newsagent - without some twat literally trying to drag you in. I very nearly came to blows with one particular Tailor!

Phi Phi, however... we were due to stay there for 4 nights and we ended up taking our shoes off and staying for 2 weeks!

I wholeheartedly recommend that.

And Chiang Mai. Chiang mai is up there with Rome, only it's way cheaper, friendlier and more laid back.

In fact, fuck Rome, I hereby declare Chiang Mai THE best city on earth.

You can close the thread now.

Favourites : Liverpool, Perth (the Australian one, obviously), San Francisco, Sydney, Phnom Penh, Cologne.

Never to return to : Los Angeles, Melbourne, Luton (eurgh, even the name is shit)

Melbourne? What the fuck's wrong with you man?

I also reckon LA is a bit of an acquired taste. Obviously the city centre is a hell hole, as is a lot of the rest of it. But around West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, good times are to be had.

New York is the best city in the states by a mile though.

Generally I've only visited good places so worst city would be a crappy English one like Peterbrough or Stoke.

It hasn't achieved city status yet but I'm getting in there first.

Middlesbrough. If you dropped a nuclear bomb on Avonmouth Industrial Sstate in Bristol the left over shithole would look like Dubia compared to that swamp.

As for best, I'd have to agree with those mentioning Havana and NYC. Really enjoyed Porto too.

I thought about San Diego, but I wasn't sure which category it really deserved to be in.

It is a very beautiful city with great beaches, but I've never found a major city as monumentally boring for night life....and I live in Vancouver, the no-fun city.

Whoa there....... Gas Lamp and La Jolla aren't that bad.......

Nah who am I kidding they are fairly generic, mind you Adelaide would give you a run for stale and boring......... and I love Adelaide...

But just to prove you wrong (and out of spite)... the first round is on me....

I stayed in La Jolla at a friends place up in the hills with a panoramic view down over the ocean. It still wasn't enough.

San Diego is very nice....but that's it.

If I find myself there again (and I might), I'll definitely take you up on the opportunity to see more.

Back in 94, when I was in New York, it was as ropey as fuck.

Times Square and Broadway, you'd have dealers openly and brazenly offerring crack to you in broad daylight; could not give a shit.

And the open door, porno super-markets were summat else. Security guards sat atop big step ladders, allowing them to see punters wanking in the aisles !

Then Giuliani became mayor and spoilt it all.

Would love to go to Frisco. There'd need to be a car chase involved though.

Was there with my Dad. He reversed into a concrete pillar - "who put that there?". Nothing is ever his fault. That's the nearest we came to a car chase.

It's a really lively place, but also has a unique ambiance no other city can match. I was a on a bus ride there and a mental case was declaring to everyone "do not fuck with my shit. I am a MOTHERFUCKING KING." It was hard to disagree.

By all means go - well worth seeing.

However, I am both saddened and confused that many people (especially the English) go there repeatedly, and often ignore many other much better, more interesting (and real) US cities.

And don't anyone say Orlando either.

I might need your advise please fellow cat lover. I'm off to Vegas in october but only coz I am on a motorcycle tour of nevada and san fran. I think in Vegas i'll just drop $50 on a table for the sake of it, lose it and then go to chill in my hotel room. Is there anything interesting in Vegas for the disinterested gambler? :O

A motorcycle tour of Nevada and California would be a great way to see the best of those states.

Nothing wrong with just people watching in Vegas for a day. Walk up and down the strip, have a peek inside some of the hotels, and you'll have seen it all.

I lived in San Francisco for a couple of months - I can probably give you some decent tips there.

Best place on Earth = Montreal

Worst place on Earth = Stoke. There is nothing about this rotting cess pit of self loathing, depressive, moronic, neanderthal, racist, dumb assed stupid fucking retards that has anywhere near resembling anything good going for it, in any way, shape, form or opinion.

The buildings are shit and look ugly, the town centre is stuck in the 60s decay, the people are from another civilisation altogether and the whole place as far as I am concerned can collapse in the stench of its own filth and be removed from this Earth as if it wasn't even there.

Oh and Memphis is a bit shit too.
