Marin is a good player but is he a bit too similar to Suarez in the role that he plays? I think the likes of Mata, Young and Dzsudzsak are probably better suited to playing in attack with Carroll and Suarez and will give the side a better balance.

 

Im sure he has only started playing in that regulary in that role after Ozil left and one of the reasons he hasnt played that well this season. Was on the wing before then.

Bale's game is based off his speed, he tries to beat his man etc. Downing, while not being slow, is not a speedster, but he has the ability to get ball into the box. You dont need to beat a man to get a ball into the box, see David Beckhams entire career.

 

Stewart Downing hasnt had one season where he has on par with Beckhams worst season in the premier league so thats a ridiculous comparison.

What we need:

Two Wingers

Young fits the bill perfectly. He knows the premiership which is a huge advantage. He's also a "title-winning" player which is the kind of signing we need.

I have to be honest, I know very little about Mata, Hazard, Turan or Marin, but they seem to be top talents who are guys that could get us to title number 19.

Any two of the five would be terrific.

 

Left back

My first choice would be Leighton Baines. Ticks all the boxes, he's a good age and he is the kind of guy that would get in a title winning team.

Don't really know much about Enrique, but have been impressed with what I've seen. The lad at Celtic - Izaguerre or something looks class and might be worth a punt at the right price. Can't say I know enough about European leagues, but I like the look of Badstuber at Bayern.

The key thing is that we have top class players for both sides and excellent youngsters like Flannagan and Robinson coming through.

 

Third/Fourth choice striker

We have Carroll and Suarez and Dirk as our main 3 strikers, with possibly Pacheco in the wings. However, a guy who can come in and do a job in case of injuries/suspensions is what is needed for any team going for a title. That Olowinghe chap at West Brom would be a great shout. He gets goals and looks like he could be even better at a big club. Gyan at Sunderland would also be class, though I doubt he'd b cheap. Conor Wickham would be another guy who might fit the bill, though I'd hate if we spent over 8 million for him.

 

Central mid

Not really as much of a priority as the other positions, but we simply have to buy Jamie McCarthy. The lad is special and with Stevie getting on, he could become a very important player for us. He's the kind of signing we used to make back when we were winning trophies in the 70s and 80s and the Mancs have specialised in over the last 20 years. He seems to have it all and is only going to get better.

Steven Defour is supposed to be class, but I've only seen him once, so I can't really comment.

 

Centre half

Maybe not as much of a necessity as a left back/wingers, but Carra is getting on and we don't want to be putting unfair pressure on Kelly. We have Agger and Skrtel who are good, but I'm not sure if they're good enough. You think of Terry and Vidic and they set the standard that we should be aiming for. Kelly will be that class in time and Carra was that class, so we need somebody for the present. I've seen Dortmund play this season and have been really impressed with Hummels and Subotic. Cahill looks like he could be a very good player in time, but I'm not sure if we could justify spending more than 8 million on a player that has little experience at international/club level against the very best.

He's clearly a bit of a knob, but he probably is the best attacking fullback in the world.

 

Got a decent one in Johnson, though. Certainly not a priority, right back. Mind you, he'd be one of the best right wingers in the league.

I would have agreed with you not too long ago. I think you are very accurate on the wingers though. We have been linked with alot of wingers and Mata + Marin/Young/Ayèw would be the pick of the bunch for me. Left back aswell is an obvious weak spot in our present team, but neither Enrique, Baines, Badstuber (CB is his best position btw)nor Izaguirre is good enough imo. I think we need someone like Coentrao or Cissokho. As Lyon have a highly regarded LB as backup (Kolodziejczak) i belive that Cissokho would be cheaper than some seem to believe.

 

As far as strikers go, i would like another top player to keep everyone on their toes and make sure our backups are ready. This would spell the end for Ngog, but i think we can do better. I want more experience up front and would like a Raul or even Owen (since i'm negged to death already i should be safe saying it!). Another player i like the look of is Juan Agudelo, though he does not fit with my experience criteria. I do not believe we will be in the market for a striker however. We have been linked with Wickham but he seems overrated to me and it is not the right time for him to move away from Ipswich.

 

Well, McCarthy or Defour? Anything but Adam to be honest. I've been very impressed with Spearing and Lucas this season and would not take it for granted that a new signing could take their places easily. Coady is advancing through our ranks aswell. Since McCarthy seems to be our primary target and we have followed his progress for at least 5 years i think signing him would be the best way to go.

 

CB then... I'd hate us signing Cahill. Definition of overhyped player. Same with Phil Jones. Hummels is apparently signing for Bayern. Subotic is a good shout and reports have us linked with Sakho and Lovren aswell. Maybe Musacchio from Villareal? He didnt't impress me against Porto but is highly regarded. But this is no priority for me. I think Wilson will come good and Wisdom will become a beast. I think Kelly will switch back to CB in time aswell... No worries here, no matter how old Carra is getting.

The Porto striker insisted he is open to making the switch to England, with Newcastle and Liverpool said to be planning a summer swoop.
