Rangers Fans Against Hicks! « Rangers or Robbers?

Time to turn up the heat and do all we can to run Tom Hicks out of Tarrant County. I don’t know the man. It’s not personal. But he’s been a terrible baseball owner. He’s ruining my favorite team.

The players seem to have had it with Hicks. Michael Young seems borderline manic at the yo-yo ownership style (wouldn’t be surprised if he demands a trade in a year or two). Tex wants out so bad he’s acting poorly. ARod left in a huff because of broken promises Hicks made. And this is the first season I can remember in which the team was so bad that not one of the Rangers several All-Star caliber players had enough around him to perform at a level truly deserving of an All-Star bid (Michael represented the team well – great class as always - but we all know he wouldn’t have gone if not for the one representative per team clause).

Fans are disgusted with the teams play, their horrible finishes under Hicks and ancillary issues. The Ballpark is becoming a circus tent, even after that stupid Amerique$t bell is gone. Now that Hicks owns FC Liverpool, I’m betting the Rangers will be the first team in American professional sports to replace the logo on their jerseys with a sponsors ad. I can barely afford to take my son to a game while the team’s salary has plummeted despite playing in the nation’s 4th largest MSA.

The organization’s coaches can’t say so, but they must be fed up with all the coaching and related changes at every level of the organization.

The media’s finally caught on. Not that many of them are very trustworthy, but still, every sports reporter in North Texas has or has come close to calling for Hicks’ head. And the national media have lambasted the team, making them a national joke.

Free agents aren’t beating a path here, not even hitters who should love to play in The Ballpark. What does that say about how players across the majors view the Rangers organization?

Rumor has it that Nolan Ryan wants to own one of the Texas team – how great would that be!

So, Tom – pack ‘em up. We’ve had it with your terrible performance. Seriously, would you not fire someone with your track record? Sell the team and make some money. Keep building Glory Park if you must and keep making money from that. But please turn most of your attention back to Dallas and try not to mess up the Stars or the Mesquite Rodeo anymore. You can’t live off of one Stanley Cup forever, especially one won in the infancy of your ownership. And have fun in Liverpool (FC Liverpool fans, you can have Hicks. Write when you tire of him, and we’ll help you run him out).

For what it’s worth, this post begins a new series dedicated to uniting fans against Hicks in support of any owner more committed to building a championship caliber team than fattening his/her wallet.

If you agree that Hicks needs to go, please state so in a comment below. If you disagree, please tell us why (and we’ll try to read without laughing).

Anyone interested, please feel free to use the (currently rudamentary but workable) logo above on your blog, Web site, e-mail, posts, etc to symbolize your support of the movement and that you are standing up as a Rangers Fan Against Hicks!

All sounds a bit familiar?

This was 3 years ago, now they are in bankruptcy. How far behind them are we in the Tom Hicks Sports Club Ownership Blueprint?

Judge's Ruling in Texas Rangers Bankruptcy Case Could Pave Way for Lenders to Block

Written by Maury Brown

Texas RangersUPDATE: Paragraph added regarding mediation. Paragraph added to address non-comments.

THIS IS BREAKING NEWS...

The bankruptcy judge in the voluntary bankruptcy case of the Texas Rangers may have dealt a blow to the prospective ownership group led by Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan by ruling that secured creditors of the Texas Rangers are “impaired” and therefore are allowed to vote whether to accept or reject a “prepackaged plan” designed by the Rangers to exit the club from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and complete the sale. The creditors have said repeatedly that they would reject the prepackaged plan.

In his opinion U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael Lynn wrote, “Even if the Plan had not been modified, the court could not agree with Debtor. Under the Partnership Agreement, Debtor’s governing document, sale of the Rangers is a “major decision.” Partnership Agreement § 4.3(b). A major decision cannot be taken except with approval of a majority of the partners.”

Lynn added in his conclusion,” The court will not direct any changes to the Plan. However, unless the treatment of the Lenders is modified, the Plan (as modified to date) will not be confirmable absent acceptance by the Lenders, the only class of creditors that is impaired under the present iteration of the Plan. See Code § 1129(a)(10). If the Plan is modified to conform the Lenders’ treatment to Code § 1124(1), as construed in this memorandum opinion, the Plan will be confirmable if it meets the other requirements of section 1129(a) and is accepted in its modified form by the Rangers Equity Owners.”

On the face of the ruling, it is seen as a victory for the creditors. Said source close to creditors to Daniel Kaplan of the SportsBusiness Journal, "This is great news… means plan is not confirmable."

However, lawyers for Texas Rangers Baseball Partners were closely examining the complex ruling to see if that may not be the case.

The next step in the process is mostly likely mediation. The Lenders and Rangers Baseball Express, LLC, the group led by Greenberg and Ryan have agreed to continued mediation. In Lynn's rulling it is noted that the court has appointed Russell F. Nelms to serve as mediator.

At the minimum, the ruling seems destine to derail any key player moves by the Rangers by the trade deadline. Rumors have swirled that either Roy Oswalt or Cliff Lee could be in the plans for the Rangers, should the prepackaged plan have been given the green light.

As of publication, Major League Baseball had not determined whether to release a statement. The Greenberg/Ryan group was still taking stock of the ruling and declined comment for the moment, as well.

Aw. It breaks my heart to see a new thread with no responses. It's like a field of freshly fallen snow in the morning that needs the muddy boots of opinion to trample through it.

My opinion: another damning indictment of Moores and Parry's decision to sell the family silver to Hicks on the assurance of nobody but his partner in crime when anybody in the US with an interest in sport wouldn't have trusted him enough to ask him if he had the correct time.

FFS Ali, I wanted to be first. Not fair.

If I'm reading the legal speak correctly it looks like our friend isn't going to get his Rangers money as soon as he'd like. I'm not sure if that's good because he might have to sell LFC sooner to get cash or if it's bad because he'll undoubtably try the same shit here and draw it out.

Could be good news if he needs the money, his original plan has been to use lfc as his get out of jail free card because of the shortfall of cash from rangers. If he can't get that cash then he might have to settle for a lower price for lfc. Can't see it tho, he's a snake and always finds a way to wriggle out of such predicaments, the fat headed fucking cunt.

Surely the opposite is true?

If he makes less cash from the stars because it's been taken out of his hands, then his resolve to hold out for an unrealistic price for us will be strengthened by necessity.

You forget one thing. The MLB are paying The Rahgers wages and have been doing so since the start of the year. Every week this deal sits in the courts is more money that has to be paid back. Whose liable for that cash?

I hope to God its Hicks as that means he'll make fuck all from the deal and any deals he's got in the pipe line that needs cash is being held up by this court case.

Ha ha
