That tiebreak was unexpected, but I think you might be right.

An excellent final and what a breath of fresh air to see two first time finalists.

Alcaraz really does seem to be quite the phenom though. Interested to see what winning a slam so young does for him.

About time the newer kids started moving us on from the other three. Alcaraz has it in him to be a tyro  and Ruud did very well to get to the final as he is seen as more of a clay court specialist I think.

In my lifetime the male players I’ve enjoyed watching the most have been, in no particular order:

Federer

Agassi

Murray

McEnroe

Not always the best, but a mix of personality, talent, style, or all three, had me in their corner.

Never took to Borg for some reason, but that’s probably more to do with me than him. I didn’t like Lendl at all during his playing days, but I recognise him as a cool fucker now.

I thought Jimmy Conners was a prick, still do.

There are others I’ve admired but not had affection for.

Federer is probably the boss of them all though.

My favourites would be

Federer

Borg

McEnroe

Lendl

Sampras

Was never gone on Agassi, great player that he was.

Djokovic for me, at his peak I’ve never seen mentality like it, always with the crowd against him as well, just incredible. When it comes to sport and music I’m not remotely interested in personality. Loved Borg, McEnroe Federer and Nadal as well. Borg won something like 11 slams and was retired at 26. Incredible
